Hi,

I just got an Ally last weekend and have two major problems with it thus far

1) When I try to add Facebook from Accounts & sync settings nothing happens. So I cannot add Facebook contacts at all. Yes, there is the Facebook Phonebook folder on the home page, but that's not what I want. This happened with both the preloaded Facebook app and the latest update.

2) So, I tried using Socialite to sync from there, and encountered different serious errors. Socialite won't load anybody's profile in full, not even mine. It would sync contacts, but they are without photos. Most common error is "Unable to Connect to the SNG Server" - experienced both with 4 bars of 3G and with WiFi.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as not having this feature work really cripples the phone.

Hi, when trying to add Facebook on "Accounts and Sync" it does nothing, just goes back to the previous screen. I have tried long and short presses on it, but still nothing. I did notice on "full" Facebook that Facebook for Android was listed twice as having permissions, so perhaps it is seeing both the stock and updated versions. I'm deleting those privileges and will re-add them, and will see if that helps. If not, it's some ugly CSV file work ahead of me...

Has anyone confirmed that this solution has worked for them "in the wild" yet? My wife's new phone is exhibiting this exact issue (cannot add Facebook as an account in address book, can add Socialite as an account, but profile pics never load in the address book OR the Socialite app itself.) But before I go to the trouble of a full reset, I want to make sure it has a reasonable chance of fixing the problem.

Thanks, I will definitely give that a try. If I can please bug you with a couple more detailed questions...

1) Does the reset keep things like phone number and network? (Wondering if this is something I can do myself...).

2) When my phone was set up, one of the first things they did was add my google/gmail account. Is that pretty much the standard procedure, are you doing that before Facebook setup / sync?

I also reset my Ally and it appeared to fix the issue... However the next day it was broken again.... I'm still looking into a solution.

Hmm, this is a troubling bug. It seems to only affect some. I wish I could reproduce it, as it would make it easier for me to track down what exactly is causing the issue, but alas, the two I fixed with the wipe don't have the issue anymore.

Same problem. I have a really strange error message when I dig into the Socialite settings... "### friends did not confirm their accounts their profiles will not be accessible." That number is shrinking as the Friends are being downloaded. The Motorola DROID does not have this problem, I know LG can fix it by just removing Socialite. Give up on Socialite... No Positive updates yet... Development knows about the issues now and they are looking for solutions... It's more difficult when it's an application written by another company to put o our phone... Yes there are isues with Socialite and we are working with the developer to resolve. It seems to update sporadically. SOmetimes most of the pictures are there and other times it just won't update... Frustrating. But I'll see if I can some help.

Ok, too many things going on right now, sorry to re-ask this... lol. Are you having problems syncing your Facebook App? or is it the number of contacts that won't sync? I initially had problems with Facebook but it's working for me... Please let me know so I can submit this if it's an issue with the Facebook App.

Ok... It wont let you add Facebook as an Account in regular Vanilla Android mode... Its like its blocked... When you go through Socialite, it takes hours to load the Facebook info and never adds the profile pics.... It will sync with contacts but still wont add profile pics at all... Other pics come in fine... Friend reqests have the profile pics but most other items dont... They just give you the busy spin for hours on end....If you go in the Facebook app thats downloaded everything is there... The SYNCING is the huge issue and the amount of bandwith it uses is horrindous... I had it use my 25 mbs wifi for a while and all it did was run dead from steady 3g usage trying to update...

I was glad to find your post, as I have been struggling with this very issue. I am grateful that the poster took the time to accurately describe the issue and so glad you are taking a hard look at this problem. It really is a dealbreaker for this otherwise beutiful phone I am hesitant to use the third party app as a workaround, and even a temporary manual fix is out of the question as socialite restricts the ability to change the contact photos. I am hopeful that you will get this sorted soon however, and will patiantly but eagerly await your official correction to this issue

Larholl, The syncmypics is a very small app with a very little footprint on system memory.. It can easily be removed and even keeps a small folderwith the pics as to not use bandwith for them each time... The only trick is to make sure the facebook name matches the contact name (same as on regular droid with Vanilla android 2.1)... It then saves them in Google contacts if you wish, unlike Motoblur and Socialite, so you really just have to do it once...

Boring, I do know the pain, but it is just the socialite and they are looking at it... This is the best device for midrange Android users, and is really new so it does have some minor bugs.... I really don't want to do a hard reset.... besides not knowing how, my wife lost a bunch of apps and info stored in apps that was not on her SD Card. I don't want the same to happen to me. I'm getting frustrated waiting for this to be resolved. Is there a workaround without doing a hard reset?

After sometime using the Socialite App I'm finding that it is updating pictures but it takes a lot of time to get the Pict updates...

I'm looking into finding a solution, and I'll post it as soon as I have an answer... For now I don't think I would do a "Hard Reset" I'm not convinced it's a reliable work around. I tried it and it seemed to fix the issue for a day or so then all of my picts went back to the "Updating" icon so I wasted a lot of time resetting up my Ally and it's only now that MOST of the Picts are updating.

For me, I'm having both problems.... with FB not in Socialite, I can't add my Facebook account. When FB is in Socialite, I get maybe a handful (less than half a dozen) synced updates, then noting.

I would ike to remove LG Home, but i don't know what all the launcher is tied into. I would like to think that it could be removed and when you open your phonebook or dial a number it would go back to the default way that all the other android phones work. Another Good Question... The LG Look and Feel is just a "Theme" I don't know if it's removable without "Rooting" the Ally... Not recommended. Have you tried just switching to the Android Theme and not using the LG Theme?? Does it make any difference with Socialite?

I had a heck os a time with the Socialite Apps for the first few weeks, but now it has settled down adn appears to be working fine... However it is still an "Open Issue" and I'm looking for answers as to why it's taking so long to update and how to resolve it....

The LG launcher is just an "overlay" and you can go into themes and turn it off for the vanilla Android feel... I actually like having the extra row of icons at the bottom but dont use any of the other LG items...

I installed the socialite apk on my motodroid a while back and it broke facebook syncing to my android phonebook. I had to load a nandroid backup to time before i installed the socialite apk file to fix my problem. I just hope that it don't take a custom rom for the ally to work right, cause i just don't think one will be coming

I tried socialite again and told it only to sync if they were a regular contact.... It did a little better but killed the battery faster and wouldnt always update.... Can we get a patch that takes socialite off and just lets Facebook use its own sync.... This program is uneccesary (yet blocks one that works) and is giving the device a bad rap versus the Devour with the working Blur...

It's the 'Syncing' part that was causing the issues... I just got a note from one of our Solutions Engineers and he is saying that Socialite is or was patched. I didn't see any notifications on my Ally so I don't know what he meant... I'll get an update as to whether it is coming or if it was patched on the Socialite end.

I have discovered the the Meebo chat client also seems to be blocked from getting the permissions it needs for facebook chat. According to the meebo docs you're supposed to see a dialog window where you can grant meebo the permissions it needs to be a facebook chat client. That window never opens. Why in the world does socialite seem to cripple all other facebook related applications? Why can't we remove it? This is absurd. BTW, I too can't add a facebook account for syncing and ended up using SyncMyPix as a workaround.

There is something majorly wrong with socialite. Let me recap my experiences with socialite so far. 1st i downloaded socialite on my personal moto droid a month back and it totally fubared facebook sync for my phone. I had to go back to a nandroid backup that was made before i installed socialite. Next my wife got the ally a few weeks ago, and socialite has never worked on her phone from day 1. So i rooted her phone hoping to remove socialite from the phone hoping that would fix the errors. Wrong, it didn't effect anything, i removed socialite and LG Home Launcher as well, still no effect on the sync issue. So just in the last day or so, T-mobile has launched a social networking app in the market. I am using the app on my droid and i must say i really like it. So i though, well maybe this will be the fix the ally has been needing, wrong, the app works on the ally, but it still won't sync the pics for facebook! I think the phonebook needs a total overhaul at this point, along with sync as well on the ally. Something in the phonebook is causing sync to not function on the ally. I would like to remove the sync data via titanium backup, in an attempt to reset the sync function back to normal, hoping that by me being rooted, with socialite removed prior to the sync reset, it would start functioning correctly. Could someone tell me the names of the things in titanium backup that need to be wiped to get the reset im looking for.

I was just informed that the publishers of "Socialite" have performed some upgrades on the Server end for there application. From what I hear, you will want to delete your account from Socialite and then add your account back to Socialite and it should work... Have you tried this yet?

I honestly think the Facebook app for the LG Ally/Android needs some serious revamping. I thought the one for Blackberry was bad. This is horrible. You can't do anything. Hope they redo it.

I'm not gonna count my eggs before they're hatched but Socialite is starting to come alive. Updating pictures, contact info, and facebook info. Only issue I'm having is now is that peoples comments to their posts is slow to download. Fingers crossed. I think that a working Socialite is awesome love the interface and how it looks, just need it now to be 100%!

Have you updated your Phone with the new update that was just sent out? I'm on the new version and I am able to get Socialite to run in Landscape mode...

As for the Socialite Widget, My Socialite Widget won't load in Landscape mode either... I'll look into it.

Yes I updated my phone and have seen better performance. I can use the actual Socialite in landscape but like you said landscape widget I have only seen it it once go into landscape. Not sure what I did but it did work that one time.

Socialite Widget works in landscape only when keyboard slid open. "Problem loading widget" when keyboard is closed.
