Can you just please confirm this already??

https://www.facebook.com/TMobile/post...

Why the do we have to hear this from T-Mobile and not from you? Someone in your company obviously knows! T-Mobile isn't just going to make up on their Facebook page. So why can't you just make it official already instead of continually dodging the question? Is the G2x getting ICS or not?????????

    I second this question.

Yes or no is all that is required.

I do not understand the reason for all the silly games that are played between the Carrier and Manufacturer when it comes to updates and bug fixes and things like that. I have dealt with these kinds of back and forth ever since the Windows Mobile days. ATT & Samsung, ATT and HTC, Tmo and HTC, Tmo and LG. Every time a question comes up in regards to an update or bug fix, its pushed back and forth between the carrier and manufacture saying that the other party is responsible for these things and end the end, you are just where you started not knowing if there is a fix or update in the works.

I am done with these games. Pretty sure that my next handset purchase will come straight from Google. I would much rather prefer to pay more for a device outright if it’s going to actually have software support behind it. Saving away about $25 a paycheck should secure me enough funds for an outright purchase once a year.

I work in the mobile industry and I can tell you that the ONLY company that has the power to change this crappy software update process is GOOGLE itself. Carriers have WAY TOO MUCH control over EVERYTHING and they often prevent manufacturers from rolling out software updates because they don't want to make the investment in testing and pushing out the update...it's ridiculous and something the manufacturer has little control over.
The ONLY company with enough clout to fix this is Google. Apple has already done it with the iPhone and taken the carrier out of the update process, Apple pushes out software any time they are ready to update phones and carriers can't say shit about it! Until Google steps up to the plate and does exactly what Apple has done this is never going to change! Google needs to stand up to the carriers and take control of this crappy update process and make it so that when Google comes out with version 4.0 it gets pushed to EVERY google device capable of running it without any interference from carriers.
Of course this probably requires a huge change in the way manufacturers and carriers tweak and preload software onto devices...so who knows...maybe it's impossible for Google themselves to do this. I predict if Google does not fix this problem Android's growth will slow and eventually decline as a competitor like Microsoft gains momentum. Microsoft copied the way Apple does it (surprise surprise)...software updates happen through MS not the carrier, that's they way it needs to work!
Maybe it's impossible to do this with an "open" platform and this is just something all android users are going to have to live with...but I know there is a better way for Google to manage software updates...and it starts with taking the Carrier out of the decision making process!!!
So if you're upset about this, complain to Google and tell them you want a better more streamlined and consistent update process for your google phone! I know without any doubts Google is the ONLY company with the power to change this.

Just bought an unlocked 16 GB Galaxy Nexus for $370 from the deal that Daily Steals is running on their eBay page today:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI....

Sigh, LG, I really wanted to stick it out with the G2x, but as it has become increasingly clear that no ICS update is coming, and as the 512 MB of RAM and poor memory management and software that LG stuck this supposedly "vanilla" device have increasingly hamstrung what I can do with it, it was time to move on. I'll hold on to it as a backup, since I'm under contract for it for another 14 months anyway, but I doubt it will see any use. I guess I know which Korean chaebol will be seeing my electronics dollars in the future.

    • I am sooo glad that I jumped ship. I have a Galaxy S2 now and could not be happier. Next phone purchase will absolutely not be an LG product. I will go for the Nexus models straight from Google from now on. This Galaxy s2 is pretty awesome but I think I will just stick with Google from now on. This whole thing has been over the top stupid. LG needs to stop making phones, PERIOD!

Oh, and guess what, Jelly Bean is almost official now. Better believe that the Nexus models will have it shortly.

      Bye Bye LG.
    • Yep Jelly Bean as well.....

      And now only $349.00 .....

OK, I have moved on to the Galaxy Nexus and am loving Jelly Bean, but it still upsets me to see the G2x languish when ZTE - yes, ZTE - can manage to get stock ICS running well on a phone with a Tegra 2 and 512 MB of RAM:

    http://www.theverge.com/2012/7/18/316...

C'mon, LG, step up your game.

Maybe they will just skip ICS and release Jelly Bean instead......LOLOLOLOL!!! Man! I crack myself up.

Seriously though, people who are left with this poor unsupported device should really consider just getting rid of it as soon as possible and move on or simply Root and go the Custom Rom way as it is clear that LG does not give one stinky toot about this phone or its customers that bought into the hype of this phone when it first came out.

I personally am pretty happy with the Galaxy S2 and will likely stick with it till next year some time. Although that Galaxy Note for tmobile looks pretty appealing. :)

Good luck to the rest of you G2X owners out there. Its been one heck of a ride, yeah?

Still hope LG gives the G2X some loving but I will probably just use it for a media player....

Sorry I've let this thread sit idle so long, but I've been perplexed about why a TMO rep would post what they did and had to escalate this for an appropriate response.

We were surprised and disappointed to hear that a single TMO rep placed all of the blame onto LG. We have brought this to their attention and we were assured they would quickly correct the response.

LG works very closely with each carrier to bring software updates to our phones. It is very much a joint effort and there are multiple layers of testing involved on both sides to determine whether or not the software will provide the best user experience possible.

Based on extensive testing there are no plans to bring ICS to G2x at this time. However, we can expect future LG devices on TMO to have later versions of Android software

I see how you came to that conclusion the way that statement is worded, but I know for sure LG did not make this decision in a vacuum, it was made together with TMO.
    • If LG will not provide the update to ICS, will LG provide the necessary drivers to allow developers to mod the phone so we can add the ICS on our own?

LG committed to an 18 month upgrade cycle for android phones. The G2x is still under 18 months (released April 2011), and ICS has been out for 8 months already. Shouldn't Jelly Bean be included in this as well? Doesn't the ZTE Tegra 2 phone show that LG just isn't interested in fulfilling a promise to its customers?

LG will frankly never sell as many GSIII phones like Samsung does, and will always be second fiddle to Samsung if they treat their mobile customers as poorly as they have been with the lack of updates, and misleading corporate mission statements like "creating value for customers" and "respect based management"

LG has no respect for me as a customer with my G2x.

    Head --> Desk

Then why o' why are you bringing it to the Optimus 2x? Am I in bizarro world or something?

YOU can expect future LG devices on TMO (or Best Buy, or Home Depot, or any place else) to never step foot in my household.

I think what Brian was saying is that T-mobile has to be on board as well..... lol same old same old ....

    you go first
    no you go first
fine we just won't do it then....

Exactly why I bought the Nexus this time no more BS from both sides....

Brian -- this is of course not directed at you but rather at both LG and T-Mobile. And no one is really expecting anything more from LG on this but instead just enjoy watching the show at this point....

I am not buying future phones from LG. If this is how they treat flagship phones, I am surely stepping away. Maybe its back to Motorola or a Nexus, but LG never again. It could have the bells and whistles, giant screen, but without software support its meaningless. Pointless as LG. You ruined potential.

I've followed a number of Motorola phones for a while, seeing as I had a Motorola Triumph with Virgin Mobile before going to Verizon, and it was supposidly Motorola that prepped a patch to Froyo to fix many issues with the device, but VM/Sprint didn't want it.

I think similar things have happened with Motorola's Photon on Sprint.

I've been sensitized to the fact that issuing a patch or complete OS upgrade requires the buy-in, sign-off, and other complexities from a number of players, not just the phone manufacturer...

Then how do we get the latest OS versions on our phones because all of the cm9 roms have issues because of the missing drivers. I got this phone because it was stock and the promise that it would receive faster updates because the was no ui skin.

From the T-Mobile Facebook support site. I think they are still blaming LG.

@John, Unfortunately we do not have any information to share regarding ICS for the G2x. All updates are created by the manufacture and we had worked with LG in regards to software updates. Are you having issues with your phone? I know that if we were to find out any information regarding updates for any device we will let our customers know. Have you visited our Community? You might want to check this page as we always update any new information http://support.t-mobile.com/community... Thanks - JR

What B.S.! The G2X phone is barely a year old, and was the 'top of the line' ( and MOST expensive) for TMO at the time. Customers have only gotten one lousy piddly update to bring us to Android 2.3 in a year???? Wake up, TMO/LG, or you will watch your customer base evaporate. I recently called T-Mobile tech-support, politely asked about updates and was referred to 'watch and see' in the coming months for potential OS updates on their general blog page. What a joke! I plan to sell this phone, beg for a mod-er who wants to spend something on it, and dunk Android - I loved the OS, but these carriers are worse than used-car salesmen -- locked phone OS, and no freedom of choice for updates or opt-outs of crappy pre-installed OEM bloatware. iPhone5 or bust, baby --- who's with me? At least Apple updates their software, and doesn't hold customers hostage and make their investments completely depricated after three months. Sheesh!

It is simply a carrier/manufacturer joint decision. As Brian mentioned, there are and will be new phones from Tmobile that will have the latest android software and operating system. The G2X is still a great phone and Tmobile has released other great phones since then such as the Optimus L9 and the Nexus 4 (Google).
