Canno connect Optimus V to PC

Hello

I have 2 Optimus Vs. I was able to connect both of them to my PC and enter into Mass Storage Mode on both. A few days ago this option stopped appearing only on one of the phones. When I connect that phone to my PC it only Charges. The mass storage option no longer appears. Of course it appears from my second phone.

I am running Win Vista. The phones have been connecting for months without the driver. My second phone still connects. Just for kicks I downloaded the driver for Optimus phones anyway and my 1st phone still does not connect. It only charges.

Any help?

On the one Optimus that will only charge, do you see a little USB Symbol in the upper left of the menu bar? If so we should be able to get the phone into Mass Storage mode manually.

Are both of the Optimus running the same version of Firmware? Which version is it? Of course you have tried both cables and different USB ports? When you installed the Drivers did you have the Optimus unplugged from the USB Cable? Possibly your are experiencing a bad USB port on the one phone that won't connect for Data... One thing we can try and that's to Master Reset the phone that is not connecting. Make sure all of your Contacts and Data are backed up and then reset the phone.... Before installing any downloads on the phone, try plugging into the USB Port to see if it now works.

Hi thanks for responding. I reset the phone and uninstalled/reinstalled the LG drivers. unfurtnately it still only charges. No USB symbol comes up. plugged in the second phone and it gives the mass storage mode option instantly. Testing to see if it was the phone's USB i plugged the "bad" phone to a different computer and I get the Mass Storage Mode option. Can't wrap my brain around this one.

    Both phones are running

    Kernal 2.6.32.9

    Problem Computer: Win Vista

This is definitely odd... Have you tried the Known Good cable on the one machine that seems to only work with one phone? Also, I'd try booting the Machine with the suspect Optimus attached to it to see what happens..

Tried a few more things. I forgot to mention that the laptop that gave me the Mass Storage option for my bad phone was running Linux. I pluged my phone into other computers running Windows and it stays in charge mode. Is there some service that I should be running or updating?

When you plug your Optimus to a USB port, what does Device Manager think is attached to it? You're using the cable that came with the Optimus and installed the Virgin Mobile Android Drivers?

I am at a loss as what to try next... If it's not the Cable, the Drivers, the USB Ports, and if it works on your Linux machine then it should work just fine with VIsta.

I have the same issue with the same result. My device manager doesn't show anything when I install my one phone. My other Optimus V works fine. I also have two Optimus S's and those have always connected just fine. I have four LG usb cords and have tried all of them. I don't get the usb icon in my notification bar on my bad phone. I have tried booting into Linux and it still won't "see" my phone; just get the charging icon. I have occasionally been getting a draining batttery when on my charger and listening to Pandora Internet Radio. This never happened with my Optimus S or my other Optimus V. Do you think there's an actual hardware problem with my phone.

I have loaded the correct drivers about 8 different times with no change in the outcome.

I just wanted to say that I'm having the exact same problem. I've tried installing/uninstalling/re-installing the LG USB drivers to no avail (with the phone unplugged while installing of course). The phone still only charges and doesn't show up as any sort of device anywhere in Windows.

The USB Mass Storage feature was working up until a couple days ago and now it just charges. I'm using the stock USB cable, and all the USB ports I've tried are working fine. I even tried unmounting the microSD and inserting another microSD in case that may have been the problem, but that didn't work.

Very frustrating to have none of the troubleshooting ideas I've found work.

When you plug the Phone into the USB port, does it show up in Device Manager? If the PC is not recognizing the Phone, possibly it's a bad connector on the phone that isn't allowing for a Data connection. I'd call support to see if they have any additional Troubleshooting steps. (800) 793-8896

Let me know what you find out.

Same problem here with my month old LG optimus V. I've been checking around on the net and this is a reoccuring issue with no real fixes that I can find. I have a 3 month old MacBook Pro which worked a few days ago when I connected my phone to the computer via USB. The same problem happened on my 5 month old iMac that I use at home. It also worked for awhile on that machine. NO USB shows up in the notifications area. None. But, once did.?.?

Tried every trick mentioned here, there and everywhere. Different computer, USB cable, pull out battery, start, restart, debuggin on, off...

Is this an android glitch? Many folks with all sorts of different android phones, PC's Macs w/ various operating systems are reporting and experiencing the same issue. Very frustrating and time consuming.

There seems to be no help for this problem on any forum I have been on. even in the actual android forums. All the forums give the same answers. How ever I will say this I had no problems with my phone UNTIL I installed the LG USB Drivers. As soon as I installed the LG USB Drivers my phone stopped connecting to my PC.

I believe it's poorly written Drivers...of course getting a programmer to admit that is like putting water in your gas tank and expect to drive some were.

Why I isntalled the drivers in the first place when my phone was working properly?

I thought maybe it would give me more options with the coomunication from my phone to the PC was I sadly mistaken.

So For now the only optionfor us CUSTOMERSis to use a card reader with the SD card and pray you don't have a faulty card that won't unlock the copy right. Even though the LG optimusV is an excellent phone I think I will pass on future products from LG. There are many companies out there that produce just as good hardware..unless of course LG actually makes an effort to fix this problem

I feel your pain...do you have acces to a card reader? you can put your SD card into the holder and put it in a card reader to access your sd card, I understand that this is not a fix but it is a work around. Frankly I'm amazed and puzzledthat none of the LG moderators suggested this as a work around...pretty sad

I had the same issue, but I've gotten mine to work.

Problem for me was that I downloaded the SDK. If you did, uninstall it. For whatever reason, you can't use both the ADB drivers and USB Mass Storage it seems.

After I unistalled, I plugged the phone in and rebooted the phone and the USB storage option popped up as soon as it booted.

Everything's good now. Hope it helps!

Count me in on the mystified crowd... I picked up a couple used Optimus V's for my kids to use on the WiFi, and activate as needed. Got one I use myself, and when it connects to USB, I get the mass storage message, plus the USB icon...

On the three unactivated phones, it will charge over the USB, but no "mass storage" notice when pluggin in...

SO, first question, any chance this has to do with whether the phone is activated or not? I'm presuming the answer is no, but, worth asking... don't know how or why they would lock out the USB interface when not activated, wouldn't seem to add any security-

Second question is whether there is some setting which can be accessed to "adjust" how USB behaves. I've installed a couple "custom" things on the activated one, but installing the same apps doesn't seem to make any difference on the NON-activated phones...

I'm considering a factory reset just in case some rogue app is responsible for the problem, but want to get a better feel for the problem first!

Tried these on SEVERAL W7/64 bit computers, with the same pattern - active phone can connect, other ones don't even try... ALL charge on the USB ports...very strange.

I'll continue to troubleshoot and see if I can figure out a pattern - one suspicion is dirty contacts, but not sure on that just yet!

FWIW, W7 just gave me an update notice for the drivers, but they don't seem to install properly... hmmm

Dumb question, but gotta ask...do you have SD cards installed in all of them? Are they all running the same version of software? Also LG recently released a unified driver for all of our phones:

    http://www.lg.com/us/support/mobile-d...

Make sure you format the SD Cards, they can be finicky. Might also try swapping the SD cards to see if that is causing the problem.

Something simple that may fix everyone's issue. Run an error check on your computer. Sometimes Windows jack up programs that Windows doesn't like...to fix it is run the error check. If anyone needs to know how, just ask and i'll send instructions.
