I've had it for around 2 months now. Worked good for awhile but now it keeps on turning itself off and it starting to get really annoying. It will just turn off without warning, it's in good shape and I haven't damaged it. Anything I can do about it?

Yes, mine started acting erratically including shutting off and not recognizing the memory card when storing. I returned it and the new one has worked well for almost a year.

How long have you had the enV Touch? Do you know what software version your phone is using? You can find this by going to the Settings Menu>> Phone Info>> The second item in the menu is SW/HW Version, select it and the top line will be [SW Version] It should be something like "VX11KV09" The last three characters will tell what version you have "V09" means that this phone has version 09 which is the latest... If your phone isn't running V09 then I would recommend that you visit your local Verizon Corporate store and get it updated to see if it helps.

Thx for your reply They both have version V09, we rec'd them towards the end of May '10. I think it may have something to do with the browser trying to load pics. The phone will reset and no history of the web page is listed in the history of the browser. Odd

Yes that is odd... The Browser is actually a new Browser that replaced the original one starting with Ver '08' So it shouldn't have any issues. Does this happen with every site that has pics on them, or is it specific sites that seem to cause problems? Is there anything at all in the Browser History? If so have you tried clearing all of the data from the Browser?

My wife has problems with Facebook pics, I have problem with sports site pics. My browser history captures all my visited sites (as far as I can tell). I have cleared browser data and have had the phone still reset. The problem seems to be centered when clicking on the pics themselves, not the pages that have pics embedded in them.

Ouch... Have you tried resetting the phone? You do this by pulling the battery out while the phone is turned ON (Not charging, but turned on) Leave it out for a minute or so... This clears temporary memory and forces the phone to reload it (No Personal Data will be lost)
I see where you have cleared the Browser History, have you done cleared the Personal Data? under options, with the Browser Open, do you see an option to Clear Personal Data?? I apologize, I'm in meetings and don't have my enV Touch in front of me so I don't remember the exact wording... If you have already done this or if this doesn't work, then unfortunately it's probably time to contact Verizon or LG Support, what you are seeing isn't normal.
[from LG Product Pro] -

Update... Contacted Verizon support and they will be sending a NEW phone as I was within the first 30 days of ownership. Rep stated that this resetting problem was fixed in version 8 software and was unaware that version 9 had this problem (possibly was fixed but has re-appeared). Will follow up with issue, if it has been fixed.

I've had V.05, V.08, and now V.09--all three versions have this shutoff problem. My V.09 does it usually after I delete browser history data and try to open another Web site. Yes, it's annoying. but not the problem that I recently posted about history data reappearing when restarting a new browser session. You might try a full restore by going to the phone security menu in Tools and Settings. Remove your memory card first just for precaution.
[from T-Bone] -

It would be interesting to see if a full reset will help... Please let me know.
[from LG Product Pro] -

This shutoff problem was fixed, I was told by both VZW and LGE tech people, with the version 08 release. That was true for the first three months of my last update to version 09. Now, I've gotten use to it and it doen't bother me so much anymore. Battery removal, OTA reprogramming, factory reset, and full restore do not fix the problem. It's probably just bad karma!
[from T-Bone] -

This just occurred to me as I was expecting my enV to automatically shut off and it didn't. Maybe, we're not allowing the processor enough time to 'catch a breath' between certain tasks that may be more data intensive than some others. Like other speed-racers, I tend to push phones and computers to the max and, depending on processor models and processing speeds, data transfer 'hiccups' do occur--usually when you least expect.

This phone is garbage.... in my opinion of course. It has great potential, but neither Verizon nor LG are willing to take the time to go through the software and fix it properly. Why? Because it takes a lot of money to go through the line of software coding. Plus this phone is starting to near the end of it's life cycle so why dump money into a phone when production is going to stop sometime down the road. This phone was rushed to the market when it first came out and people are still experiencing the same issues as when it was first launched. Truly sad.... I love how "some" people on this board are shocked to read that this phone reboots randomly for no apparent reason or say rebooting is not normal. I laugh whenever I read this. Have you read the reviews on the Verizon Wireless website for the past 6-8 months or gone to the Verizon forums? Not a single day goes by where I don't see/read an issue with this phone. I personally will not buy an LG product (phone, tv,.....) after my experience with this phone and I'm not the only one that feels this way. LG is and has been hurting their reputation with this phone for not fixing it. Oh, and don't even get me started on LG's/Verizon's super secretive "I/We can't post software release notes to tell you what has been fixed" even though just about every other major phone manufacturer lets the public (a.k.a. the consumer) know what is being addressed/fixed in a firmware/software update. I have a feeling we will see a few more software updates for this phone that will add new features and fix a few minor bugs, but not fix the existing major ones that have plagued this phone since it was first introduced. Seeing as how the major issues will apparently never get fixed for this phone. Hopefully LG/Verizon will take the time to get it right if/when they release and enV Touch 2. I mean if they don't after all the issues that are listed here, on Verizon's website, and on multiple internet sites then LG has got some serious issues in their R&D department.

All my siblings and I have an enV Touch and before we all got the version 8 and version 9 updates none of us had the phone shutdown unexpectedly for no reason. Now we all have problems with the phone just shutting off completely without any sound or warning at least once every other day. Version 7 of the firmware was the most stable firmware for this phone and I absolutely loved it. Also, my phone reboots for no reason when I enter the Verizon App Store sometimes. Since the phone got the new browser I also had the phone restart when browsing the internet. This phone is good but plagued with bad bugs and crappy firmware updates that make it less stable than it was before.

That's disappointing... How old are your enV Touches? How many phones are rebooting or powering down? This problem only started after you updated them to Ver 08 or 09? I would contact Verizon Customer Service or LG Support to see if you can get them fixed... I'm not sue if it's just the update or if it's the update with the hardware.

I am sure that the most recent firmware updates (version 8 and 9) are the cause of the phone spontaneously shutting down sometimes. The proof I have is very simple. I have 4 siblings who have an enV Touch and I also have one. Whenever a new firmware comes out I take all of them to the local Verizon Store to get them updated. Ever since firmwares 8 and then 9 were loaded onto the phone the phones just shut down sometimes without any sound or warning. There is no shutdown sound or display of the Verizon logo. The phone just shuts off and the reason this is annoying is because sometimes I wont notice the phone is off until a while has passed. Now if I was the only one with this problem then I would probably blame my phone but 3 out of 5 have confirmed the shutdown issue on multiple occasions and that is with me included. Now bear in mind that when firmware 7 was loaded on the phones none of use had the spontaneous shutdown bug. Also, the phones are not hand me downs (they were new) and they are all about one year old. Another bug is that the phone sometimes shuts down when on the browser which is understandable since some web pages may crash the phone but still unacceptable. Sometimes I try to enter the games download section or the browse and download section and the phone just reboots! I can confirm that with version 7 firmware a lot less rebooting was going on and out of all the firmwares that are currently released version 7 was my favorite. That firmware had the least amounts of reboots if any at all. With all the rambling I am doing about how version 7 was my favorite you are probable wondering why I don't go to the Verizon store and ask them to load up my enV Touch with that firmware. The reason is very simple. I love the new browser way too much to ever consider going back. I just hope that the upcoming version 10 firmware will kill all these persistent bugs that seem to be hampered out and then they still manage to appear. Version 7 firmware killed a lot of bugs that plagued the phone only for them to come back in version 8 and 9. By the way the enV Touch, even with all of the bugs is still very good but future updates can make it so much better. P.S. There might be a small chance that these bugs are caused by bad hardware but it is highly unlikely since many people can observe the same problem over and over again only with the latest updates. If it were a hardware only issue then the problem would have always existed no matter which firmware was used. Since firmware adds or removes the problems with this phone it has to be faulty firmware.

I'm sorry to hear about the Shutdown issues, it is frustrating especially it happens without warning. How long have you had the Touch? Have you tried pulling the Battery and cleaned the Metal contacts on the battery and the inside the phone it's self? Try using a swab or something soft along with a SMALL amount of Alcohol on the swab and rub the contacts to see if there is any dirt or contaminants on them.
Have you tried Customer Service? I'd give them a call to see if they know of a solution or can help you out. (800) 793-8896

Sadly turning off and rebooting is notorious for this phone. Just look at some of the original reviews for this phone. It was happening even with early software updates and not just the later ones. It is nice that you are trying to help, but I'm sure you, LG, and Verizon are well aware of the problems for this phone. However, users have been complaining ever since this phone was released (again read some of the original reviews) if you don't believe me. It's either a software issue, a hardware issue, or both trying to work together that is the real problem, but no one will admit to this.

I got my enV touch almost a year ago, and it worked completely fine until about a month or so ago. It doesn't matter what I'm doing, it turns off whenever it wants to. Just a few minutes ago I was typing a text, and it just went black. It turned itself off. It also turns off by itself when I'm not even doing anything. It'll just be sitting on the counter and the next time I go to look at it, it's turned off, with a full battery. A resolution for this problem would be great. Until then, guess I'll be paying a visit to my Verizon store.

Another Update My 09 enV Touch has begun to power off/on more frequently when working online. I recently had to replace my extended battery (got hot when charging). but don't think that the battery is causing the problem. Talked extensively with Verizon today and they are sending out another new phone to replace this one. I really like the enV Touch (best 'non-smart' multimedia phone on the market), and hope that the much-rumored version 10 is made available soon.

This phone has been having issues with rebooting/turning off since software version 3. If you think a new software version (in this case 10) will help, I wouldn't count on it. I do think they will come out with a few more updates here and there (the Voyager got 14 I believe), but the major issues will probably not be fixed. Instead they will add a few new features here and there and hope for the best.

I've had this same issue with a Dare, enV3 and currently have the same problem with my Chocolate-Touch. This is a common problem with all recent LG phones, at least the ones on the Verizon network. I have been dealing with it on my Choc-Touch because I just don't like the whole exchange process. But I finally got tired of it, and reported the problem and they sent me a replacement, which actually arrived today. I will try it out without much hope of it not having the same problem. My hope is that even if the replacement has the same problem, I can get it replaced and then once more, and after that they will offer to replace with a different phone. And when they do, I will most likely get a non-LG phone. The only phone out of these three that I liked well enough to put up with the random shutting down was the enV3, which I regret exchanging now at this point. But it was just a great phone in spite of this annoying problem.

I think the enV3 and enVTouch use some of the same software and coding which is why we see random rebooting/shut offs with these phones. Trust me we will just have to learn to deal with it as LG will probably not invest the time, resources, and money to go through the lines of code to fix the problems.

The enV3 Power issue was due to the Battery not fitting properly... Verizon is taking care of those... The enV Touch looks to be a software issue, and there is an update coming to resolve it. I have kept quiet because I still don't have a time frame for when it will be released... But I am watching the status closely. As soon as I hear anything I'll let you know.

I have long defended the Touch but am now experiencing the aforementioned shutoffs during composing emails, texts, opening or closing the unit, and randomly. And yes it started after a forced update beyond ver. 7. I decided to go with the mobil email after being one of the few able use the phone as just a phone (and PDA) without any of the additional web services. The mobil email app would not work with my phone and ver. 7. It is now annoying to the point of looking for another phone...hard to find one with a good calendar app that is not a data phone. Disappointing...

I have an enV Touch which has had an unending stream of battery and powecycling problems since I got it about a year ago. First, I had to replace the battery after being unable to keep a charge for 24h with no phone or data use. My second battery performs slightly better, meaning I have to charge the phone any day that I make a call longer than 5 min. The battery problems I will have to live with, as at least they are predictable.
What is completely unacceptable is the "power cycling," ie the phone turning itself off without warning. I cannot count how many times I was waiting for an important call at work, only to find my phone off yet with a full battery.
I would like to know whether LG seriously intends to fix the "cycling" problem, or whether I will just get a replacement from VZW which suffers from the same issues. If this is the case, I would much rather pay $200 out of pocket for a phone that works, rather than continue to waste my time with this embarrassment. I feel especially let down by LG after so many great years with the VX8350 and 8400 phones.

I don't suppose LG could step up to the plate? I'd be willing to ship my phone to them to get it looked at, since this sounds like a fairly simple hardware problem in my case.

I called LG for assistance just now and dude tells me the on/off cycling is electronic issue. I say to him, yes I've had the phone for 2 years, not saying never had any issues, but the cycling just happened today from 4pm-present. He preaches to me about something loose on phone, maybe needs flashing, etc....no help at all. Basically told me to get a new phone. Because of his lack of concern, I will never puchase another LG phone! When I told him how upset I was and wouldn't purchase another, he said "Oh well!"
Done deal. smdh

i have an env touch and its my 2nd one, my first one kept resetting itself and they gave me a new one. the SW version is: VX11KV11 . the current env touch that i have turns off automatically every 5 minutes or so no matter what im doing. now it has gotten to the point that i cant turn it back on unless i take the battery out several times. sometimes it takes me up to 15 minutes to turn it back on! its very frusturating. i have to keep this phone for a few more months until i can up grade to a new one. in the mean time, what should i do?? HELP.

I think something is failing internally or a battery issue. The latest ver of software "ZV11" should have resolved the rebooting / Powering off isssues, so you shouldn't be seeing these problems. How long have you had this phone? Have you contacted LG Support (800) 793-8896?? Have you tried replacing the battery?
