I'll start it off.
Anyone that wants or thinks LG should update our G2Xs to ICS, please reply to the thread. Lets show them how many customers are really out there. And how important we really are. Lets bump this to the number one thread. Surely they will notice us at some point.
I would like Android ICS on my G2X.
Thanks,
Nate

How about LG offering loyal LG customers a deep discount / rebate for purchasing NEXUS 4 phones?

Brian (Official Rep) November 13, 2012 21:33if you live in a city with LTE then that is definitely something to think about. LTE is a big difference in data speeds which might make or break it for you. You have a Spectrum, you aren't seriously thinking about a trade up already, are you? That's still a well spec'd phone even by the latest standards...but I understand the desire to always be on the latest devices...I myself have a serious addiction to having the best phone possible...maybe we should start a new thread dedicated to those of us with this device addiction?EditDeleteRemove

I was afraid of THEM mentioning Nexus 4 here...
Amazingly, they did: mixed #G2x and #Nexus4...
PS: "Release the Kraken..."-
I know...I know! Did I cross a line I shouldn't have? If so, I'm sorry. It's hard not to talk about such an exciting device that we know will be running the latest software and keep our hardcore "geeks" happy. My apologies if you didn't appreciate that post.

for those (like me) coming late to this thread, see the confirmation from employee Brian that LG doesn't care about loyal G2X owners:

My fix? One less loyal customer to worry about. Bye bye for LIFE, LG.-
itc,
I am with you! When Christmas comes, Santa will be bringing me a new phone and carrier!! Goodbye LG for life! -

It's strange, CM10 works almost perfectly on the G2X yet the maker of the phone can't even get an official ICS build for it. At the very least, they should release the video drivers so a fully functional unofficial build of JB could finally be released.
Give your loyal users at least that much satisfaction. The hardware itself is still very modern. It rivals my new galaxy s2. Of course, my s2 can actually run fully modern Android. -

Khamikaze you crack me up with your title...classic! Wish I had news for USA devices around this, but I know nothing. I was under the impression only Korea was getting it so that is phenomenal news and tells you how much I'm in the loop with software updates.

The G2x is definitely a great phone and hopefully ICS comes to the USA soon!

I also add my voice. The LG Optimus 2x (P990) and SU660 were updated to ics but not the G2x (P999). Thats a slap in the face to us. If this phone doesnt get the support it deserves i will surely never buy an LG product again. I have the factory unlocked P999 with v10c firmware , not on t-mobile or anything so where is the update LG? For me this is on you guys not t-mobile.
-
"If this phone doesnt get the support it deserves i will surely never buy an LG product again."
That is nothing but fair.
As far the updates go, there is no better phone other than the Google sponsored ones: the Nexus line, like their latest Nexus 4.
However, the Nexus 4 is from LG...
I am refraining myself to buy it, even tough it has an excellent price, simply because I am not quite experiencing "Life's Good" with my G2x...
I am pretty sure there are more people with similar thoughts...
Today I read in the web something about Google next phone to compete with Samsung and Apple: "LG Nexus 5"...
Are you feeling the chills?
Regards, -
-
Pshh wow. Another Nexus by LG. I say hell no. Idc anymore, if LG is in the name, im not buying. No more of my money is going to them even if google is going to be providing the updates. Companies like these are a shame. They release a faulty phone or should i say almost completely unusable and then provide us with an update way to late and even those updates don't squash the bugs 100%. On my unlocked p999 with v10c firmware my phone, for some reason, cant run past 48 hours of up-time without experiencing extreme lag. I have to reboot for it to work normal again. Its so stupid, there's no way you can release a phone like this without knowing that these issues exist like wtf don't you test your own product? -_____- Since LG probably isn't going to release ICS i suggest they help these guys over at "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showt..." its an unofficial cm10.1 for the p999 and only thing broken is the radio, which also seems to affect the battery meter and gps? I believe helping these guys with the ril issue would boost LG rep, at least with me. So LG you hear me? Help the custom devs you don't even need to waste your time making ics just help these guys with the ril so we can get jb 4.2.2.

I haven't even turned my G2x on in six months but I can't not chime in here. What were the results from the testing that prevented you from updating the G2x to ICS? Because whatever they were they didn't stop you from updating the Optimus 2x.

@david.gomes.420 commnet 2 hours ago: LIKE!
@LG Team, @RyanLG, you are in a very complicated position on any conversation related to #G2x. Something went wrong, #G2x is not worth anymore for LG to spend any kind of resources and you guys still have to manage to respond Customers here at the forums. Fact.
But here is another fact.
It is not too wise of your part to try to mix any kind of #sales , #LgPhonesAdverting with #G2x .
I tipped this when Nexus 4 was first mentioned in the G2x forums...
We, LG Customers, did the first step in believing and investing in LG. Unfortunately, there was frustration. Unfortunately, for us, our voices and words here will not change anything (sadly).
Why would we have to make our 2nd step towards LG without having them make theirs towards us?
An eye for an eye...
I think it is a simple proposition.
I would like to have an awesome and happy experience using an LG Android Flagship Phone for the next 1 or 2 years. Sure I do.
So 1 or the 2: (1) LG fixes and updates the G2x or (2) LG provides another current/recent LG Android Flagship Phone as a Customer Appreciation.
In one way or the other, if the LG Phone is good and works, Customers will recognize that LG cares about Customers, knows the problem, knows how to fix them, users will be using a LG Phones in the years to come and will consider LG again.
Thanks all, -

@RyanLG "Well sir, LG works very closely with each carrier to bring software updates to our phones. It is very much a joint effort and there are multiple layers of testing involved on both sides to determine whether or not the software will provide the best user experience possible.
Based on extensive testing there are no plans to bring ICS to G2x at this time. However, we can expect future LG devices on TMO to have later versions of Android software.
If you want a different OS or software than what you currently run, talk to forum users like jvanhou or stef7, they can assist you with that stuff."
Strangely, when I bought my G2X, the software crashed, was buggy, slow. It was my first premium Android device and I was wondering why the price was so high.
Seeing as the phone was running so poorly, I decided to go for it and I rooted my phone, installed Cyanogenmod (still on 7 at the time) and my phone began to actually work at a decent speed and to feel like a premium phone.
I continued on the Cyanogenmod upgrade cycle with my G2X, finally owning a phone that felt like a premium product until I reached CM10. Due to the failure of LG to release the video drivers, my phone, which until then had felt premium due to the efforts of others, I could no longer record video.
In other words, not only did your company fail me once but, due to your inability to even release video drivers, LG has failed me twice and lost me as a customer.
I've looked at the nexus 4 quite a bit. In fact, the only reason I haven't bought it is because of the failure of LG to even allow the support of a product with as much promise as the G2X had.
Make the first step towards redeeming yourselves and just release the drivers already. The hardware is deprecated, you wouldn't have to officially support it and you could finally be done with all the bad will. Release the drivers for those not lucky enough to be able to move to a new phone. -
-
Free the software! Free the drivers! Respect the customers! #OccupyLG

I find it funny how after these "extensive tests" there are no plans on bringing ics to the G2x especially since it is so similar to the p990 hardware-wise except for the radio. Even more so because custom devs have already created such a buttery smooth jellybean 4.2.2 for our phone. The coders over at LG must suck if they think this phone can't run android 4.0+.
In regards to updates being a joint effort, idk if you even read but i have already stated earlier that i have a factory unlocked LG-P999 that came with v10c firmware and may 21 2012 baseband. I do not have the T-Mobile G2x (if i did i'd have v21y firmware?), the box my phone came in even said LG-P999. So where is the update to ics? I have the carrier unlocked version so why doesn't LG release an update. I see no need for joint-effort when LG sells a carrier unlocked p-999 -_____- -
-
What about those deep discounts / voucher suggested near the beginning of the thread? Certainly, people should be able to call in and demand one.
If LG can't push an update, and if the company can't release drivers so the dev community can make a lean-and-mean OS upgrade for the device that works superior than the original software release (this is really quite sad commentary and telegraphs very subtle stuff to savvy customers), why not expect LG to make it financially possible for a customer to stick with the LG brand (customer retention... a concept), plus get something for their absurd amount of trouble.
The device is defective.
Is there someone, anyone at the managerial level understanding how customers are being turned off to the brand by poorly tested and prematurely released software? Are they ACTUALLY ACTIVELY DOING ANYTHING?
I mean, LG should adopt a philosophy of "TREAT NO CUSTOMER AS IF THEY ARE A PRODUCT BETA TESTER (unless of course, said customer offers to be one - BTW, I'm still waiting for my call from LG... you have my number).
When my contract is up with Verizon, what LG phone am I going to step into that will be a clear upgrade to the Spectrum I currently own?

Yeah, that's part of the problem though, messages from "Top Authorities" - it's generally NOT timely nor proactively generated, but the announcements come only after lengthy delay, lots of complaining, and after the SW patch or release has already been posted.
In some cases, certain people know the update exists before it's even posted here.
That is a truth.
I think that there had to be significant "hitting on the head in the Thrill thread" (say that five times quickly) for there to be any action. It's simply too effort intensive for basic common sense feedback from the user community to get past / over the wall.
If LG wants to be a major player, they have to step up their game. Way way up. There should be someone assigned in software engineering to the model in question, and that person should be working [VERY HARD] to release the necessary code for others to bring satisfaction to LG's G2X users...
This begs the question - is LG management adhering to the corporate code of ethics? LG is going to continue to loose ground even if it produces superior hardware because it's the combination of both HW and SW that are important to consumers, not some silly benchmarks - but real world reliability and performance..
Rather than doing what the competition does, LG needs to differentiate itself and adopt and execute on a different quality-focused product lifecycle model. -
-
@RyanLG, @LGTeam, so that's what I said: I ask the "LG Top Authorities" to provide you/us a timely response.
So (1) you tell them our voices, (2) you ask them to provide a timely feedback for us, (3) you tell us, right away, that you passed them our comments, and they will provide us a feedback within X days and (4) finally, if they are going to do any action, they will implement their action in timely manner.
Thanks, -

My Dear Comrades G2x Owners, have you used any one of those online petition sites? Let's get of those petitions going for the G2x Fix and Update (Android 4.x).

Idk what website he is referring to but i have started a petition.
I encourage everyone to sign it and please spread it so we can raise awareness!

The Nexus 4 has been the best version yet of compared to the previous models/versions and this is LGs first time manufacturing it. Previous companies such as Samsung produced a Google Nexus but the success was not nearly as accomplished as the popularity and sales of the Nexus 4. I understand that it being back by Google has a lot to do with it, but LG as well did a pretty darn good job on their part in producing such a stellar device both inside and out! As much as some don't want to give credit where it's due, I feel LG really showed their potential with this one.
-
-
Yes, to be completely fair, the Nexus 4 is one of the best designed and built devices out there! However, the Quality Control at LG isn't that great. I had to RMA my Nexus 4 3 times before I got a perfect Nexus 4 without a creaking back, dead pixels on the screen, and with no over heating issues. Every one of the LG phones I've owned was built solid and I do love them. It's just LGs software that's bringing everything down. On most of my posts regarding the G2x, I always give out a positive remark about it's build quality and the hardware of the phone. Just the software is always a let down.

If I were a G2X owner, knowing that the international version received ICS first would provide some spark of hope since typically the trend is global devices receive updates first, followed by USA mobile devices later on. But the question here that you all have is "How much later on...?". I hope to have an answer to that soon just like everyone else here does.

-
-
I haven't even turned my G2x on in six months but I can't not chime in here. What were the results from the testing that prevented you from updating the G2x to ICS? I really do not see any of the US carriers paying LG for the update to the "out dated phone". Every one just needs to face it, that the G2x is now old tech and the manufactures and carriers are moving forward not backwards.
-
I can see where you are coming from GTWalling, it seems that every day that passes each carrier seems to release a new phone! It is nearly impossible to stay up to date with the latest and greatest technology. I do not know where LG stands right now with the G2X and a possible OS update. I have heard things ranging from "never going to happen" to "by the end of quarter 3 in 2012". Either way nothing has happened in favor of the device. However seeing how the Thrill recently received a OS and software update, after going through a similar situation with users complaining and begging for an update for over a year, with many signs pointing more towards the "never going to happen" attitude. However LG surprised and impressed us all by releasing a major update a few weeks back and since then many Thrill owners have been very pleased with their device. Some people don't ever want to let go of their seemingly outdated phone because they are comfortable with it's features and don't want to have to start from scratch with a new phone being that technology changes by the second nowadays. I have not lost hope yet that the G2X will receive an update until I hear otherwise. Your voices here in the forum, on LG's Facebook pages and feedback to customer care will make the biggest difference in the end.

Come on guys. Here in Canada, the LG Optimus Black just got ICS, and it's a lower end phone than the G2x. But this also means that there may be just a bit of hope that LG will give us ICS.

Older generation phones have more software support than this one and run android 4.x without a hiccup. Of course this is ported but when I saw the Optimus 2x get 4.x I though this might change, it hasn't hence I am deeply upset with LG.

@RyanLG -- I'm not commenting to change your mind (I can see you're sure of your opinion), I only want to let you know that Khamikaze isn't flying solo here. We downtrodden consumers respect threadiquette and wish to be shown the same courtesy by LG.

I appreciate and respect your concerns. I see no harm or foul in leaving the post here for a couple days. At the moment there is no news about the G2X and an update for it, so until then it would be nice to add some light to the darkness here by involving yourselves in a forum activity since the main topic here is merely updates on petition signatures. All you need to do is join in on the activity. That way I know most of he audience I advertised to is responding to the invitation, followed by removing the post.

@RyanLG. Any information you can give us yet? Its been a while. The petition has 111 signatures btw!

Oh snap just realized I no longer see ryanlg as an official representative for this thread. Anyone know what happened? @Brian can you help us out now? Why would ryanlg just bail? Nice move LG you just took away the only Guy that was willing to help us out -.-
-
-
LG will never update this phone. They have definitely lost a customer for life.....looks like many others as well. That is how corporations change mindsets. Toss your POS G2X in the donate bin and NEVER but anything with "LG" on it again...
-
Hmm with ryanlg no longer being a representative idk what to think anymore. But what you say is true the petition has 141 signatures and thats 141 people(not including all the other g2x owners who dont know about the petition) who will be very pissed off at LG for not giving a flying fu*k about them. It's pretty sad that the optimus 2x and su660 got the ics updates and the g2x hasn't since its practically the same hardware, except for the radio of course. Im sure it wouldn't be that hard for LG to cook up something for us. It just sucks that they're being dicks. And don't put it on t-mobile LG! I got an LG-P999. Even said it on the box instead of saying T-Mobile G2x so wtf LG its your phone.
