I think they are going to push this to about 10% of the users initially, possibly wait a day (Soak) and then push to the rest of the users.... I'm not positive of the schedule but this is what I have heard.
>>Edited<< Ahh, Very Soon.

given the lack of marketing, I am guessing the total number of units sold is on the small side.
so 10% could be just a small group. Lets go for the whole thing today?
I know after the last lg update on another device, the powers that be want to go slow and sure.

ok, still waiting.
scratching head, why announce something and then not have it happen.
I work in the software publishing business. You can't imagine the schedule pressure we feel for release dates that are set months in advance, but in this case there was not advance date provided. so why say anything until you were really ready.
I hope I get to eat my words and later today, my g-slate has 3.1 goodness.

LG - This whole story (rumor) of the 3.1 upgrade started a couple days ago based on a moderator post to this forum. The story was picked up all over the web and now everyone is expecting the upgrade "today or tomorrow" - meaning the 9th or the 10th. Its 540pm EST on the 10th and nothing. No one is reporting they have recieved the update.
Question: IS IT COMING TODAY? Please believe me that we would MUCH RATHER you come out with an official statement saying something like "The story is not accurate, please expect your upgrade next week." or next month. Or never.
The worst part of all this is NOT that we are all stuck on ver 3.0. It is the ABSOLUTE silence and disregard you have for your customers.
PS: Thanks @LGPro -- I appreciate that you are at least trying to keep us informed. You shouldnt have to carry the whole company communications on your shoulders though.

The way we understand the Google Over The Air (GOTA) process is that it may take up to 7 days for people to receive the update. So even though it has been released, your g-slate only check's in once every 7 days for updates and there isn't a way to force it to check-in. And if Google is only releasing the update to 10% on the first round then that may further push out the date for each person. So, there isn't an exact date we can tell you you will definitly receive the update...it's based on what phase of update your g-slate is in AND also when your g-slate happens to check-in (once every 7 days) for an update.
Has anyone received their update yet? Let us know when you get it.

To learn more about GOTA I did some google searching and found this description.
http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/show...
Yes it is from a sprint site, but I *think* the process may be the same for all android devices.
( I hope I did not break any rules by posting a link )
Being new to android devices (my g-slate is my first), although I have other users in my family (they just use their phones) I play with mine. :)
I cut/pasted the text below. I also found some steps to force the checkin of the GOTA servers. I am guessing my device is not yet marrked.
from the link:
Each Android device has a ÛÏfingerprintÛ that is specific to each model. When the device is first activated, the device ÛÏchecks inÛ to the Android GOTA update servers to see if there are any updates available for the core Android code. If there are, the software update process will automatically start and the update will be downloaded to the device in the background. Once the download is complete, the user will be prompted on the device to install the update. If there are no updates available, everything will work fine and the device will ÛÏcheckinÛ again in 7 days. If updates are available, the download process will start, otherwise, the device will work fine and will ÛÏcheckinÛ again 7 days later. This is the normal cycle for a device that uses GOTA as the update method. When a maintenance release is ready, the update is submitted to Google by the device OEM (e.g. Samsung) and Sprint provides a schedule that includes the volume and timing for the release. The schedules generally cover a 4-day period and the volume is expressed in a percentage of the overall base for a specific device. Google enables the volume of downloads in their servers based on the Sprint schedule (e.g. 10% on day 1). Devices are picked at random and marked as eligible in the GOTA update servers so when the device completes its next scheduled ÛÏcheckinÛ, the download can begin. In order for a user to get a GOTA update:
- Google must have the MR loaded to the GOTA servers
- Google must have the specific device marked as ÛÏeligibleÛ in the GOTA servers
- Users must have the approved version of software to be upgraded on their device
- The device must ÛÏcheckinÛ to the GOTA servers
- GOTA servers have a different ÛÏcheckinÛ process than the Google market. Having a Gmail account or opening the Google market will not initiate a GOTA ÛÏcheckinÛ. However, it is recommended that users set up a Gmail account and accept the terms and conditions of the android market so they can receive updates to Google applications and services on the device.
- The ÛÏUpdate AndroidÛ in the settings menu doesnÛat force a GOTA ÛÏcheckinÛ. It basically checks the device to see if an android update has been downloaded and provides an area where you can see the progress of any android updates that are being downloaded.

Google is your friend in more ways than one.
Do you know if T-Mobile has done their part, it seems they have some steps in this process also?

One of the g-slates in our office got the update last night...it's the first one I've seen receive the update via GOTA. This should mean everyone else should see the update any day now! :)
Let us know when you get the update!

How is Netflix failing? Is there an error, or it just not recognized?

the error is 12001 ---- Netflix works but when you get to the streaming it fails with the 12001 error. Seems to be timming out to me.
I say its a timming out error becuse Skype also gets the error while trying to log on and stream their contant now to.
Makes me want to go back to 3.0 infact if some one knows how to go back to 3.0 i would be happy only reson i looked at this tablet was for the netflix and skype... Yes i know it was not officaly supported by netflix but I dont care the sales man at t-mobile siad itd work with it and it did tell 3.1.

Faild retrieving extenison index drmplay.event.load.normal
Media_playback_stalled 7
Playout stalled
------------------------------------------
its failing at talking to netflix straming the drm agreement --- This has to be a permission issue with the 3.1 honeycomb and the slate. Since this issue was not there before and it was talking to netflix and streaming th drm fine
Skype is failing at the account login becuse no mater what its seeing every thing as null tell it times out once again it looks like premissions not being allowed to change or use resorces

the fact that lg has failed to respond to a single one of the myriad complaints regarding the 3.1 ota update is appalling!
unlock the bootloader on the g-slate today so we can fix what you are clearly unwilling to repair on your own.
we will not stop complaining, our voices will be heard. legal action will be taken to secure full access to the devices we have a legal right to modify.
do it today and save what little face you have left!
