    silly I’m not shouting!
Whaaaat??? I wasn't shouting... a bit terse, yes, but no CAPS-LOCK ON OOOOH I'M SOOOO ANGRY ARRRRRGH!!! ;-)

Aside from that snide aside... THANK YOU!! Knowing that LG doesn't consider the P925 to be EOL is a tiny step in the right direction. Knowing that the situation is still being discussed is another tiny step forward.

Now I can wait for the "one giant leap," then I can stop writing diatribes. ;-P

LG (if it has a patch), needs to push AT&T. Regardless though, if a Thrill or other owner is having Ghost call problems, one call into LG should get them some form of remediation (today). There simply couldn't have been sufficient testing of the GB update against the kernel.

Basic phone functionality like being notified that someone is calling you is simply a requirement for any properly designed and operating phone. Ultimately, it is LG that warranties the device. They should make good with their customers (yes/no), independant of what the carrier is or isn't doing.

    • It sure was, but due to the recent update many Thrill owners are now seeing the desired improvements in their device that they long waited for.

Hmmm. Since the operability of the device is so fundamentally impacted by this issue, wouldn't you think LG could offer owners another model to make the situation right?
A warranty that merely replaces a defective device with another one but doesn't fix the issue is not really a warranty worth anything is it?
And if people are locked into a contract with a particular device... where do they successfully seek a solution to the problem?

And that's exactly where it gets sticky - the legalese involved in the warranty says:
LG offers you a limited warranty that the enclosed subscriber unit and its enclosed accessories will be free from defects in material and workmanship, according to the following terms and conditions:
    1. The limited warranty for the product extends for TWELVE (12) MONTHS beginning on the date of purchase of the product with valid proof of
purchase, or absent valid proof of purchase, FIFTEEN (15) MONTHS from date of manufacture as determined by the unit’s manufacture date code.
    ...
LG will, at its sole discretion, either repair, replace or refund the purchase price of any unit that does not conform to this limited warranty. LG may choose at its discretion to use functionally equivalent reconditioned, refurbished or new units or parts or any units.

Also, part of the CYA (cover your @$$) policy...
WHAT THIS WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER :
    ...
    4. That the Customer Service Department at LG was not notified by consumer of the alleged defect or malfunction of the product during the applicable limited warranty period.

So... unless you figured out that you were affected by "ghost calls" during the warranty period and notified LG directly, LG has plenty of wiggle room to deny you covered warranty service. Of course, there's the difference of "spirit, not the letter of, the law"... LG certainly could do the right thing and offer a different model as a customer service exemption... but at this point, most of us have been so burned by the lack of service so far, it would take quite a bit of an exception to turn us around. I mentioned before that the Optimus 3D Max P720 would be a great replacement device (no "ghost calls" on its firmware, same 3D features, and still AT&T compatible) - but it's not a LG USA-offered mobile, so that's probably a no-go.

When it comes to AT&T's role... they could care less. Their contract is for the service, and doesn't extend to the hardware (outside of subsidizing the cost of said hardware). They can act as LG's agent in the warranty process, exchanging handsets themselves when deemed necessary - but outside of the 12 months, they are no longer obligated. Again, doing the right thing in the interest of keeping a customer should go far, but with the limited competition in the US, there's no financial incentive to do so. Sucks, but it's the sad reality of our national wireless industry.

Over the past 25 years of owning a wireless device, I've dealt with Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and other regionals... and when it comes to handset support, there's plenty of intentional "grey area"; you bought the device from the carrier to use that carrier's service, but the device (although plastered with the carrier's logo) was made by a 3rd party and is warranted by that vendor. I've resorted to buying either a prepaid handset or second-hand device, just to ride out a subsidy contract, on a couple of occasions... which is why I buy my devices out-right and SIM-free now.

All we can do now is wait on LG to patch us up, or buy another device and chalk up the P920/P925 as a loss. There's rumblings of the oft-delayed ICS update coming to Euro-Open P920 handsets within the next week, but ask our T-Mo G2X-toting brethren how the International release of the ICS build for the Optimus 2X helped them out - officially, not at all. Still on Gingerbread, and (not) lovin' it.

jvanhou: yes, agreed. and this is why we keep writing if LG wanted to differentiate itself, then it should do the right thing. That would be noticed.

i was once married to a lawyer, and i understand about hiding behind what is and isn't written. i can speak from first hand experience before and after the divorce.

obviously, what LG isn't seeing is that the corporate ethic it attempts to advertise and follow, and it's warranty are deemed pithy when so objectively, it has provided a defective device and is not fixing them in a reasonable time frame. in this case, the phones ability to receive a call and notify an owner is fundamental to a phone's operation. everyone with a thrill should be calling and demanding a model that works or a total refund, without exclusions.

I got my LG experience from the Spectrum and the fiasco about the ICS that was not made available when it was advertised to be... thus comitting false advertising, but also from reading all the issues with many of the other handsets.

These are influencing my decision NOT to purchase an LG Smart TV or appliance, and most likely, a replacement LG phone when my 2yrs is up. And it's funny because in the beginning I was probably evengelical about the Spectrum and so much so that I was accused of being an employee of LG.

    Ha.

Even if I wanted to give LG another chance here, devices superior to the Spectrum from LG are just not on Verizon. The Spectrum 2? Well maybe I could pick up one of those for a song in a few months time. Hopefully better battery life with that device...

All these uber phones, clocked so fast with large displays, multiple cores and fast GPUs. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm purposefully throttling mine just so I can experience half-way decent battery life between charges.

I'm quite aware, other LG phone owners have it worse... If the LG Spectrum had decent battery life, it would be an almost "perfect phone". I'm spoiled by the induction charging I use on my HP Touchpad, so maybe that feature in a new low-profile device would be a draw.

I guess the question, perhaps for another thread should be "Why should the phone I replace my Spectrum with be made by LG?".

Time for everyone to think positive thoughts for all Intuition owners. Their recent push is breaking phones. This sort of is a great opportunity for LG to step up, because they just killed peoples experience. Even if they give brand new phones away or superior model devices, the impact to people is seemingly extreme.

LG more regression testing mandatory. I wish LG would share how this update went so poorly.

RyanLG, you are cool...Get promoted and tell people what needs to be done to retain customers...LG clearly doesn't understand how CUST loyalty works.

You guys are whom make the difference for the consumers with your Constructive input. LG update cycle.
Launch product -> update to fix major bug -> update to remove software that was legally required to be removed -> update to make phone not the farthest behind on the shelves -> update to brick phone (no inbound calls) -> no futher updates...love it!

Perhaps an engineering stand down and period of self assessment is in order. Time to get honest internally with process capability. No new device intros until existing devices fixed. Focus on software QA. Implement beta test program. Adequately staff and train SW engineering. Calibrate to quality and providing rock solid offerings and timely well tested updates. Re examine management of SW engineering and focus on fundamentals till you demonstrate you can do it right.

Exactly..time to quit all the engineering of new stuff because the updates to those will wipe out critical elements keeping the bad process going. It is time for LG to slow down and TEST, TEST and more testing of updates on the affected models to make sure it does update and not regress bacwards. It is clear that LG does not test it updates before putting them out. If there is an update for a Thrill then test the update on all the features of the phone to make sure nothing is wiped out, then release the update. LG messing things up with updates is very evident they do hardly if any testing. LG needs to be responsible and bring out quality products and do quality updates. If their sales start to plumment they have no one to blame but themselves.

silly I’m anxious... and tired of waiting!
    Hope springs eternal...

An interesting tidbit floating around XDA and other sites is the leaked beta of v28b firmware (ICS, 4.0.4) for the Euro-Open P920. So far, it's getting rave reviews - fast and fluid Optimus UI 3, better RAM management, improved battery life, and a slew of updated apps. The only detractors I've seen are those with custom kernels and other tweaks that don't play nice with stock software. There's also a few locked-down links to the LG Mobile Tool database for a v30a build - possibly the final version of v28b - but those links appear to be simply placeholders.

As we've been saying here, LG needs to test updates more thoroughly to prevent issues like "ghost calls" and the "Intuition Update of Death"... but the ICS update for the P920/P925 is overdue by 5 months. Seeing as the leaked beta is being so warmly received by those on the bleeding edge, I'd like to see LG finally put the P920/P925 issue to rest and release this update! Even this beta has to be better than what we've got now.

Not sure if anyone is still following this thread, but check out the LG Mobile Update tool with your Thrill 4G P925 - according to the tool's "Supported Models" database, the Thrill 4G now has software v30b - ICS!!

Please try this update out, and tell us your findings on this thread.

According to the chatter on XDA-Developers, this is update is fast, "ghost call"-free, and feature rich.

The problem is solved! They even sent a text to all ATT customers. So apparently it's been in AT&T's hands...probably for a few months.

Anyways, still not happy that it took that long to resolve a major issue...but I no longer live in fear...I received 4 phone calls, instead of my average 1. :) and no 911 ghost calls yet either.

Grrrr...After months of complaining (during which time my warranty expired), I run the ICS update...and it bricks my phone. It was actually recoverable until an LG support tech told me to do something peculiar, now it won't even BOOT. Moreover, they REFUSED to honor their warranty even though this problem goes back to when my phone was still under warranty!

AT&T came through for me (sorta). I'm getting an HTC One X with a new 2-year contract. Good-bye, LG!

Exactly. My phone was in warranty when their update destroyed my blue tooth capability and all they wanted to do is send me a refurbished phone of the same thing I have, thus the software was the problem and of course AT &T said they have no jurisdiction over software. So basically LG so far has refused to send out an update restoring the Bluetooth of my LG thrill. I said goodbye to LG months ago. Can't trust their updates because they are not tested.

LG needs to fix their LG Tool that you download and update your phone. It doesn't work and hasn't for months. I tried putting in the MEI number and put it in and it said it isn't valid (which it is). I check the port and said Port is not found, (even though the phone is plugged in) and says phone is disconnected (which it isn't) and that will not change. No matter what I do, says the phone is disconnected and to connect the phone (which has been plugged in all the time). LG you are getting worse, at least when you have an update let me get it thru the update of the phone instead of trying to get it thru a broken LG software tool.

Go to Settings. Do you see anything called "Connectivity"? Or possibly Phone | USB... Either way, I believe these programs expect your phone to be in "Modem" mode.

My Android interface on my Spectrum may be different from yours. I'm running ICS, but the Connectivity menu under settings existed in Gingerbread.

Way back in the time machine, back to Froyo, I believe the USB settings where found under Phone.

    Search around.

    • So is there a way to go back to the old operating system and leave the Bluetooth fixed and put the apps and the system back to the way it was? We did not ask for 29 app updates. The phone is no longer the LG Thrill that we loved. Why didn't LG leave well enough alone..why didn't they just fix the problem and leave the rest alone and give us a choice of updating the rest if we wanted to. We are so very unhappy.
    • Having your updates set for "Automatic Updates" is a common way and complaint for why a battery can drain so quickly. I recommend disabling that feature if not already, and see how your battery performs after doing so. When an OS is updated, the apps don't necessarily get updated, but rather optimized to work with the new OS. The battery life could also be affected by the improvement of the phone's performance and it's consistency of staying connected to bluetooth, WIFI, GPS etc.

Or do as jvanhou suggested and reset your phone and then see it's performance. If you flash your phone back to an old OS, your bluetooth will again have issues. I wish it was as easy as piecing together our favorite features of different operating systems but unfortunately it doesn't work that way. Going from Gingerbread to ICS is a huge leap and there are significant chances in features and overall layout, emphasizing what jvanhou mentioned below.

Well, updating went just fine. Just very unhappy about the end result. It fixed my Bluetooth and I'm so thankful for that, but my wife and I are very unhappy with what other things the update did. All our settings have been rearranged and not like they used to be, very hard to navigate around, even our messaging is totally changed and the message windows have been totally redesigned. We want our old phone back with just the Bluetooth fixed. We should have been given an opportunity to choose what we wanted updated. Our phone is like a totally redesigned model, not the LG we fell in love with and purchased and we are so very unhappy. Even the battery runs down much faster now and we have to charge our phone up twice a day now, before it was a lot of times only at the end of the day. LG even changed the "slide up" screen...they changed the entire phone and made the features so slow..it takes an average up to 10 seconds for us to get an app to load. We press PHONE or MESSAGES and sit and wait, and wait, and then it loads very slow.

Thanks for fixing the Bluetooth problem LG but you should have left everything else alone. Once again, us consumers get the short end of the stick without being asked about other improvements.
    • Brian (Official Rep) March 26, 2013 15:36
Please perform a full factory reset and let's go from there. The ICS update is what Thrill owners have been begging for for nearly a year, I'm sorry that you would have preferred an alternative update, but 90% of the feedback we got was "fix these issues and give us ICS" and that's exactly what LG did. Most of the comments I've read post-update are almost opposite of what you are saying. I've seen many owners raving about speed improvements and other positive aspects about the update with a few minor grips that couldn't be avoided with an update to ICS. So, obviously there is an issue unique to your phone.
Please perform a factory reset and then Ryan can help you from there. Thank You for your patience!

Sorry about going on and on but LG really screwed up this time. There is nothing LG can do now to get me to buy another one of their products. In fixing one problem they created 29 more. Why didn't LG just fix the problem and leave the rest alone, we didn't ask for this.

Charles... it looks like your update experience didn't go as well as expected, to say the least. A great deal of the changes you're seeing are actually part and parcel of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich - this version of Android introduced a vastly different "user experience" compared to prior versions, and LG's Optimus interface was updated to work with these changes. In fact, the new Optimus interface is much closer to the stock Android software than it was in Gingerbread or FroYo... something that a lot of us have been looking forward to for quite some time!

Of course, this is all after-the-fact... your phone's been updated, and it's not working the way you expect. What's to be done?

Firstly... after updating, there's a number of other users on other forums complaining about "lag" - those 10-15 second delays when you open or close an app. The simplest fix is to restart your phone! Fortunately, the new software boots the phone in a fraction of the time that it used to, so when the phone seems to be bogged down, give it a reboot. If the delay is still pervasive even after a reboot, the next step is a factory reset - in Apps > Settings > Backup & Reset > Factory data reset. Quite a few people have noticed a vast improvement and reduction of the lags after a post-update factory reset.

Of course, those two options assume that you want to try to use the updated Ice Cream Sandwich interface. But what if you just don't like it, and don't want it? Can you make the phone work the way it used to??

Yes, you can... but it's not drag-and-drop simple. LG, like every other Android-handset vendor, does not offer an officially sanctioned way to roll back to earlier firmware... but like the shade-tree mechanics of yesteryear, you can use the available tools and roll back the software yourself. Also like those shade-tree mechanics, if something breaks, it's up to you to fix it, so proceed at your own risk. The method for rolling your software back is here on this XDA-Developers thread. The links to the prior software are unfortunately dead, but you can run a search for them on SmartPhenom's LG Firmware Update Central, phone model "LG Thrill 4G LGP925", country "United States (North America)"... the V20P firmware is the same as your prior (mostly broken) build; you can also try searching phone "LG Optimus 3D LGP920", country "United Kingdom (Europe)" and download the V21G build - this was just released last week and is perhaps the most solid Gingerbread build available for the P920/P925... since it's a European build, there's no built-in AT&T software (good riddance, I say!) and you'll need to manually enter the AT&T APN's for data service (again, follow the XDA guide). And, just like before, Gingerbread is outdated - quite a few of the newer apps on Google Play are requiring ICS - such as Chrome and the new Google Keep notes app - and won't install on Gingerbread.

Alternatively, like stef7 mentioned in another thread, you can just download a different "launcher" program - this doesn't involve flashing software, as it simply runs in place of the Optimus UI. You'll still have the "updated" apps, but you can customize the look and feel of your homescreens and app list. Search Google Play for "launcher" - Nova Launcher and GO Launcher are very popular.

Overall, it's a shame that you don't like the new ICS for the Thrill... LG has done exactly what we've been begging them to do - fix the bugs, and update the OS to 4.0. I find the new UI to be fantastic, the phone is much faster (even with an occasional "lag"), and we can finally use apps that require ICS. Since just about every other Android phone currently available for sale runs ICS (or its successor Jelly Bean), you'll either have to get used to the new way Android works, or move to another OS... like iOS, Windows Phone, or BlackBerry.

Best of luck, and I hope this helps you out in some way!

With an update this major you MUST do a factory reset for best possible performance. This is the only way to ensure the OS is running properly and should resolve performance and battery issues. When I perform a major OS upgrade I always do factory reset before the update and after the update to ensure the best possible results. I highly recommend this!

Well, at least we got Charles to the updated OS with the bug fixes!

Likely what is happening is this: settings have a certain persistence. Those settings exist in non-volatile storage. Because of programming (not LG's fault), and because of the way the updates are issued and expand out and the code starts using that space, uninitialized or "dirty" locations that end up being used by those settings often influence code operation in unpredictable ways.

I concur, after a major update, a person is simply asking for trouble because of the potential for improperly initialized memory if they don't reset the device. The FDR takes care of that by wiping everything out.

I wager Charles' experience will improve greatly following the FDR.

Charles, if following the FDR, your device responsiveness improves, but you hate the U.I, I would suggest Holo Launcher and Holo Notifier as replacements.

    Good luck.

I hate doing the factory reset but I will I guess, I will lose everything on there and have to start all over from scratch again.

    • thank you, I'll try that IF I do a reset. I did it on mine a few hours ago, lots of things that did not back up I had to redo. I don't know why in this day and age that multiple phone numbers of a contact cannot be backed up, each one is listed separately so there are some contacts that are listed 3 times, one for each number. Anyway, things are not operating any faster and battery drainage is still a huge thing...almost everything is shut off just to see and things have not changed so I'll not be doing a reset on my wife's phone, no use if nothing changes.

There should have been two updates..the first one to fix the problems and then the 2nd one to be optional to change operating systems for those who wanted that. If LG had done extensive testing before releasing the first update that screwed up everything we would have not been in this situation. I'm still not getting another LG product. Forcing you to do a system change or update mixed in with a problem fixer update is not good customer service, give us consumers the option..Oh well, blue tooth is fixed, I'll just have to carry a charger with me now every where I go.
    • Charles, people know I've been hard on LG. I'm surprised I still can post here sometimes.

However, what you are seeing w.r.t. battery time may very well be another consequence of an update and the necessary FDR. Your phone needs to go through three full charge / discharge cycles to be able to predict better the real remaining charge on the battery...

Use your device until it shuts down. Charge it all the way up. Use it until it shuts down again. Charge it all the way up. Then one more cycle... You'll get better battery life, I'm almost sure.

In addition, w.r.t. responsiveness give the phone a chance - use it for a day, and I'm pretty sure there, you will see it getting more responsive. Also, don't hesitate to install Holo Launcher and Holo Notifier. Honestly, a small curve in learning it, but afterwards, you'll be able to confidently configure your device the way you want. And I'm fairly certain, it will seem more responsive.

I cannot comment on the contacts and the backups. It's possible your contacts haven't all been sent back to the phone yet?

What I'm saying is, give it a few days. Then you may wish to reconsider upgrading your wife's phone at that time.

You have the right to be frustrated, but some of this technology and what it ultimately forces upon the user is common across manufacturers. It really is. I know, sometimes, I feel like I am serving the technology, rather than it serving me.

      Hang in there!

Charles... I don't mean to be confrontational, but based on your responses to our suggestions, I don't think anything you do is going to make you happy with your P925. The ICS update fixed both of the major issues with the Thrill 4G: it corrected the detrimental bugs with "ghost calls", bluetooth, and RAM management, as well as updated the OS to be inline with the rest of the Android ecosystem. Asking LG and/or AT&T to release 2 separate updates to allow for a preference of OS version just isn't feasible - no other carriers or manufacturers do that.

When it comes to multiple numbers per contact, your Google account will back them up correctly. Speaking for myself, I have had issues with multiple numbers for individual contacts when I first migrated from my BlackBerry - some contacts on my SIM, others backed up to my Exchange account, even more backed up on the phone itself - it took me a day to organize all of these different repositories into my Google Contacts list online, and ever since, my Android devices keep those contacts perfectly straight. Multiple resets, software flashes, upgrades... Google kept my stuff intact.

As for keeping your SMS and other data... everyone here has some great suggestions to try. I don't do much with SMS (important stuff I keep in Gmail, really important stuff is PDF'd from Gmail and onto a storage server!), but give SMS Backup a shot. I keep pictures on the microSD, and back them up to Ubuntu One wirelessly - you can do the same with Google Drive, Skydrive, Box, Dropbox, and about 20 other cloud services.

Bottom line - you don't sound happy with the Thrill, and I don't think you ever will be. If you still want a 3D phone, you can try the HTC Evo 3D - you can buy it online off-contract (check Amazon), just make sure to get the GSM version to use it on AT&T. Don't care for 3D anymore? The new Blackberry Z10 looks awesome. The Nokia Lumia 920 and HTC 8X are spectacular phones running Windows Phone 8. Of course, there's also the omnipresent iPhone 5.

I hope you find what works for you... me, I'll just keep my fingers crossed that my unlocked P920 gets an official ICS build, because I like what I see.

That is ok, I take no offense at any of that..takes a lot more than that LOL. I cannot afford another phone for 2 years so I'll live with it. LG can be a leader by thinking out of the box..just because the other companies do not do things is no reason why LG cannot. Think out of the box, take the lead and if it takes 2 updates of different data packages to solve problems then why not do it? Customers is who companies need to please. I will definitely try the sms backup a shot and the other suggestions. I am very happy with the Thrill, just not the way LG approaches the problems and lump everything together in one huge update that does more than just fix problems. I use dropbox on my pc's but totally do not know how to back things up from my gallery to dropbox using an app, guess I can learn.

Apparently I did something wrong. When I synced my google contacts nothing got backed up and all my contacts are gone. What is the correct way to keep my contacts on my phone synced with my gmail so if my phone ever dies or I have to do a backup they are already up on my gmail also..I want everytime I enter a contact it is also backed up on my gmail account. Also, how do I go get them if I have to do another reset for some reason. If I sync gmail or google contacts shouldn't they automatically come down and show up?

After updating to ICS my phone no longer receives push notifications, which means I have to manually refresh my email among other irritating problems. Does anyone else have this issue?

    • 13 Mississippi from sending an email from my work email on the PC to receiving a Gmail notification on the Thrill. Notifications checked, Sync Gmail Checked, Days of mail to sync 30 days.

I did do a factory reset when I installed the ICS update. I installed via the LG Flash Tool; flashing the bin and fls. I seem to be getting Draw Something updates, but I'm not sure exactly how quickly they're coming in.
    • Someguy: I strongly recommend doing the factory reset, I know it is a big step and time consuming having to back up all your data files, but it's been the best reported strategy by many consumers on how to assure the update is installed successfully and the phone performs as it's supposed to.

Another problem has cropped up with my ICS Thrill... when I connect it to my computer as external storage, it causes a memory leak in dllhost.exe that persists when the phone is disconnected. Twice now it has leaked until dllhost was using 12 gigabytes of RAM (I have a lot of RAM) doing nothing. Needless to say this chokes up the computer somewhat...

I will try the factory reset soon.
