i got 2.2 ota two days ago everything is great except my texts either dont send or take along time to send and if i talk for more than 2 or 3 min i cant end the call so i have to turn it off almost everytime i talk. i called verizon tech support they said they got 45 five calls in the last hour with that problem they said there was a glitch in the update they were aware of it and they passed it onto lg and they were workin on it. so pro if you hear anything about that could ya let me know something its kind of a pain. but other than that its alot faster and smoother. oh and is there some reason why i cant post on this forum from my ally

Ok no issues yet. Not many apps that I have are able to go to SD card though kinda dissapointed in that. Battery seems to last a bit longer so far. and my memory usage seems to be a bit higher on average. Also love the ability to put it in silence mode by sliding the button opposite of the unlock button. If it was there before I didnt notice it. Only seen it today as it changes colors from white to yellow if in silent mode. I like the browser and phone button on bottom it opened up two more icon spaces on first page. Havnt played with the tether yet will do that at work tomorrow. Nothing else to report on as of yet.

LG does not caarry the "best" phones but I can say that you shouldn't give up now! They are really trying to catch up with other phones! Just give them time....

So...to sum up what I've read on this forum. The 2.2 update :
1. doesn't fix the 50% bug
2. does not include flash
3. has bricked many people phones.
Awesome.

I upgraded my phone using the LG update tool last week when the 2.2 update was first released. I can't say that I really have had any of the problems described and I don't recall any complaints from others who upgraded that way. If I am not mistaken a lot of the people with issues with the update are those that got it OTA. I would be curious to know if this is really the case.

Well, we have 4 phones that got the update OTA and none of them are having any issues. The 50% bug was not fixed however.

That's good to hear. Sometimes it is hard to tell from the forums. Like you, I have noticed that the 50% bug still exists although my battery life appears to be the same or better.

Tested the update 2.2.1 for a few days now. No master reset necessary. The phone however was fully patched and was not modified. Standard app downloads and use.
Since the upgrade, I have not had an issue that sometimes I would have where I would select a contact and call and it call another contact that was in the recent call list, but it was a phantom and may reappear.
Call quality remains the same at least no noticiable difference. One disappointment is with the redesign, when within a call and selecting the dial-pad, the numbers are about 30-40% smaller than previous version. On a relatively small screen and larger fingers, it is harder to enter numbers for things like voicemail password or other dtmf signaling requirements.
The ability to move some applications to the SD card is a huge benefit in freeing up some space... not all applications seem to support this option however.
Consolidation of the applications for handling email and calendar (corporate and personal) great addition. Works perfectly fine in both MS Exchange 2007 and MS Exchange 2010. After the phone upgrade the calendar initial sync takes awhile (5-15mins) for initial sych. No configuration changes neccessary other than after lauching email for the first time after the upgrade and agreeing to the application properties (changing permissions for remote wipe etc.)
Battery life has not been noticably different. Somedays it appears to be less than usual, others more and others the same. Not definative as the environment that the phone is in and usage is not consistent. The phone still powers on when you attach it to the charger and there is no apparant way to change it so that the phone can be off and have the phone charging.
Phone speed remains roughly the same... it appears to mozy along as it usually does but the phone did come with a 600Mhz processor not a 1GHz but also didn't cost (at least not me) the same as the 1GHz phones.
A few applications have crashed unexpectantly the most recent being contacts when trying to add a new contact and it launching the backup applicaiton choices (backup assistant, google, corporate) crashed but with a quick force close and retry works fine. Not necessarily duplicable and has happened prior to upgrade but very infrequently for an app to crash (no data loss).
Overall very good upgrade and if you haven't received it yet the over the air (OTA) version seems to have begun so I would wait on it.

No problems here with the upgrade ÛÒ what I am looking for is a COMPLETE list of what has been added / changed in the upgrade.
The flyer thatÛas posted on Verizon obviously doesnÛat list them all ÛÒ and the link that says ÛÏfor a complete listingÛ just takes you right back to the flyer.
Things like the fact that the keypad theme is now black ÛÒ and that the ÛÏin callÛ keypad is SMALLER arenÛat listedÛ_.but IÛave obviously discovered them.
I also donÛat see anything about tethering.
If anyone has a list (or a link to a list) IÛad be forever grateful.

Since the OTA version now seems to be out (you should really use it rather than USB) but since you asked it is fairly straight forward.
Requirements:
Fully updated and charged LG Ally V740 (not including 2.2)Windows XP SP3+Windows LG Mobile Driver (http://s3.amazonaws.com/lgforum.com/r... LG Mobile Software Update (http://www.lg.com/us/mobile-phones/mo...)
+Note: It may work with systems outside of Windows XP SP3 but that system works and was used.
First ensure the phone is in USB debugging mode. Ally menu --> Settings --> Applications --> Development --> USB debugging
Secondly, get the drivers for the phone from LG forum website (this site) in the drivers & Resources menu (linked above). Install the software and connect the phone and ensure that full connectivity excess. It should be things link seeing the LG Ally VS740 as a modem, be able to get to the SD card and phone storage etc. Invaluable IMHO.
Once that is verified and the system has been restarted and the connectivity verified again, (using USB cable connecting to phone via charge port and phone is USB debugging mode) then you can proceed to the next step.
+Note: Preferably the phone should be fully charged (or close to it) to proceed beyond this point.
Finally, install the LG Support software. This software allows you to communicate and update the phone. Download the LG Mobile software from the link above. The LG Ally model is VS740, verify that it is in the list for upodates and download the software.
Install the software and follow the onscreen prompts as to when to connect the phone etc. The software will download the udpate, verify the update, verify the connection to the phone then update the phone.... DO NOT POWER OFF OR REMOVE THE PHONE DURING THIS UPDATE (including shutting down your computer even due to power loss... ) Thats what it says anyway excluding the power loss part...
That said, if the installation of the update actually reaches past 7% then you should simply have to wait it out to complete. If the phone losses connectivity during the install, it will back out the update upto 7% (observed), after that, well...
The phone will be upgraded and you can use it happily.
Some changes I have seen:
Calendar applicaiton consolidates to one application rather than Corporate Calendar and Calendar
Power control widget adds automatic cycle to widget
Copy apps to SD card
Tweaks in UI touch and feel
Addition of capability to use 3G hotspot (activation seems to be required)
Added Auto Retry to Call settings
Auto rotate now works in both directions
Slower response (not much) than 2.1
Battery life is less, now battery tested at 39 hours without charge 100 -> 1 %. i.e. Moderate use in fairly strong signal area (voice, data, txt, email, browsing (not much))... Similar usage would be 54 --> 67 hrs on 2.1. When searching for signal or low signal (based on location) 100-> 15% in 9 hours... Should have recorded stats but did not. Cell standby does show up on phone though.
I attribute it to both processor demand and that advanced task cleaner not working well (or likely configured well) on 2.2 so have switched to advanced task killer that was never as efficient IMHO.
Hope that helps and good luck

If you can't send Text messges and nothing else seems to help... and If your store has the capability, you might try flashing the old software back to the Ally, then Master Reset it and apply the 2.2 update again... I know this is a hassle, but it's been reported to help.

The 2.2 update has been a complete nightmare. Not only is it very unstable - everytime I restart it switches back and forth between old defaults, settings, and widgets, but the real nightmare isthe voice dialer... now with the slightest touch to my bluetooth headset, the voice dialer automatically starts dialing -- some calls are tomy contacts, some are international, but most are just random numbers that the voice dialer "thinks" it is hearing.Unfortunately I cannot be aslighthearted andhopeful as someof the other posts...myAlly and bluetooth have now called -- on my"behalf" -- from the safety of my purse, just inthe past 2 weeks since the update--old boyfriends at 7 in the morning, my boss at 10pm, and plenty of confused strangers - even some international -- thanks to this update. This is pretty much a deal breaker for this phone. And what a shame - in the last 2 months, I have convinced 2 friends to purchase this very phone.I was surprised when I called LG customer support that they seemed oblivious to the problem, and oblivious to the tons of complaints of this very issue on other droid forums. Unbelievable.Unfortunately the only way to uninstall voice dialer is using theroot programming(which I don't know how to do) and this also voids the LG warranty. The only suggestion from the LG customer service rep wasto not use my bluetooth headset. Unacceptable. Handsfree is the only way I can use my phone, especially when driving, so this is not an option.Any suggestions????
Yes, there is a bluetooth dialer, but (and sorry if I sound ungrateful) so far I have not been able to get it to dial the name I speak (it calls something/somebody, but not what I want), have found no way to calibrate it to my voice and compounding this, it doesn't ask to confirm the name it thinks you spoke - it just dials.
While this may just be a foot in the door, I find it unusable to me while driving as it would require more attention than just finding the contact and dialing it manually.
Still amazed my old flip did this function flawlessly and these phones can't even come close.
Maybe 2.2.2 will have it figured out ;-)

My daughter cannot send any text messages, this just started today. When you say store, do you mean a Verizon store? And what if your store don't have the capability? How else can this problem be resolved?

My apologizes, it looks like most stores don't have the capabilities to Flash back to the 2.1 Firmware... If the Ally is behaving oddly, I think your best bet is to contact Support (800) 922-0204 or LG Support (800) 793-8896 for a replacement.
