LG Revere annoyances

Anyone have the LG Revere through Verizon yet? I do, and while it's a great little phone I find 2 very annoying issues.

1) the outside screen decides all on its own to light up EVERY THREE MINUTES. Why in the world would LG program a phone to light up every three minutes? Not only is it eating battery life, it will suddenly light up the room if it's dark

2) I don't have cell coverage where I live, that doesn't stop it from trying to sync to who knows what. I get a failure to sync error showing on my screen the whole time I'm outside the network. I've deleted all apps and intentionally never set up back up assistant. So what the heck is trying to sync to and why???

Anyone have any advice to stop these?

I'm looking into this for you. It sounds like something is trying to communicate with the Verizon's Network and is not successful so it's retrying.... I have created a trouble ticket for this issue. Have you asked Verizon Support about this issue?

As the LG rep stated, it sounds like the phone is trying to connect the VZW network, which is probably why the outside lcd lights up as well as the phone is trying to sync something. Do you have backup assistant activated on your phone? If so, since you're in an extended network area that would explain the sync error, we don't have much on a basic feature phone that would require it to sync with our network.

I have the same problem with my Verizon LG phone. It lights up every few minutes and is draining the battery significantly. I have had the phone for several months but this only started recently. I have not yet brought it in to Verizon.

Also, every once in a while the phone goes off at 04:02 a.m. offering Verizon's mobile email service. I took it to Verizon where they said they had never heard of this happening and tried a number of things and said it was fixed but I was woken up once again with the offer. I was able to stop it by playing around with the settings and it was fine for a few weeks but then started up again. I went into the settings again and reset. This has happened a few times but lately, (knock on wood!!!) it has remained quiet through the night!

I hate to have my first post here be about annoyances. This new Revere is the second LG phone I have owned, and I like it even better than my last! BUT...

Sometimes when I get it out of my pocket and pinch a button, I expect the screen to light up (to check the time, or to see who is calling) and occasionally it will not, forcing me to open the phone just to check the time or answer a sales call. Fortunately, this does not happen all the time. And yes, I know I am depressing the button because it "beeps."

Also, this phone is apparently too new to even be listed on the LG site, nor is it supported yet by BitPim. It also does not appear on the compatible devices list for VCAST. This has made getting photos off the phone a puzzle. I'd love to be able to load them from my phone to the computer all in one batch instead of pausing to email them from my phone. I have the USB cable and a fair degree of tech savvy. How hard should it be?

I have the same experience. I am trying to see whay the outside display doesn't light up. It sems to work if I press a left button but not necessarily if I first press the right button.

    A few other comments:

Speaker phone audio is poor and buzzes. I have this on three different Reveres. I can not disable Daily Snoop even though I hve removed it many times.

As posted earlier, phone does not suppor Bluetooth with GarminNuvi265. Phone constantly reboots when paired.

Phone pairs with newer Garmin 3000 series but audio does not redirect to the GPS speaker phone and voice commands don't work. I am told that hopefully in several months. there will be a new firmware release. Compared to my older LG 8300 and 8600 phones, this phone has a better keyboard for my fingers, but also has some shortcomings. Audio is poor on speaker phone. You have to open the phone to activate Voice Dailing. On previous LGs there was an outside button. I often drive with a wired headset and opening the phone is inconvienient at best.

Phone is sometimes difficult to hear in noisy environments. Ringer volume is not at loud as older LG.

Feel is good, battery life is not as good as I had expected and that is probably due to the Snoop and Address book synching which seems to happen a lot more that I though I configured it to do. I may attempt to disable Backup Assistant and do it manually if that is possible.

So I guess Verizon does not offer an LG flip phone that has an SD card, and this is the only sensible way to get pictures out of these types of no-smartphones without jumping through hoops. I will probably find an older LG like the VX8360 on ebay that takes an SD card. It's very frustrating because I like this new Revere except for a couple of glitches, also I have not experienced poor battery life. On the contrary, this phone has gone a week without charging!

    • Does the occasional NOT respond on all of the Revere's that you have? Let me know so I can try and get some help with this... It seems to work as expected on my
    • DailyScoop? Yes that's an issue on one of our other phones... I'll report this to Development just to make sure they look into it. Verizon support has a work around, I think, to disable this program... But we'll look into it as well on our end.
    • Speaker phone poor quality? I'll report this as well.
    • Ringtones not loud enough? Again I'll report this.
    • I'm sorry for the lack of external buttons to answer a call.
    • Yes for improved battery life I'd try a manual Backup Assistant sync to see if that helps. Again we are looking at the Daily Scoop issue
There is an update in the works, I don't think it will be "Months" but I don't know the exact time frame.

I know's it been a couple of months since your last post, but I have a request from our Support team to see if we can understand what's happening with your phone... Have you been able to resolve the issues with the Screen lighting up every 3 minutes? Have you installed any Apps from Verizon's on line downloads? What is the message when it lights up?

The Sync issue almost sounds like "Backup Assistant" is trying to sync your contacts with the Verizon's on-line backup...

If you haven't tried resetting the phone, I would take the phone into a Verizon store so they can backup your contacts and photos and then try a reset or see if Verizon Support will exchange the phone.

If you don't mind, can you Private Email the MEID (It's under the Battery) to me so I can track it through repair...

    Webmaster@lgforum.com

Again, I apologize for the delay.

I've had the Revere since september and no problem with lighting up except for the first week. On another note, the extended battery makes the phone almost awesome. With moderate (1-2hrs per day) use use, the phone lasts a full week on one single charge. Also, the extended battery cover works for either extended or standard... another bonus.

Now for an annoyance: I have a wired headset from verizon with a button for answering calls, etc. On my old LG 6100, pushing the botton always diled the last number called/received. (There was a side button for voice commands.) On this phone it either calls the last number OR activates the voice command. Which it does seems entirely random. Is there any information anywhere on how the phone decides which of the two actions to take? It would be immensely helpful while driving to know what it would do without looking down at the phone. Thanks.

I agree about the lack of bluetooth or USB file transfer support. How hard can this possibly be?! I bought the vn150 because it did not require a data plan. It was also available as a pre-paid phone. Not being able to send/rcv pictures or sync files via usb or bluetooth isridiculous. I am considering an LG 47 lcd-led tv as a Christmas gift for ourselves. The picture quality is supposedly great, but some complaints about the software. Is this a systemic problem with LG? I will probably avoid the lg tv given the common software complaints.

Avoiding LG products until I their software improves.

    Tim,

I transfer pictures over bluetooth all the time to my computer from my Revere. There are multiple ways to get there, but here is one: Pair with your laptop. Go to "my pictures", select "options", "manage pictures", "send". Mark the ones you want or select "mark all". Ok. Send via bluetooth should be option 3. Works wonderfully.

Like I said there are other (probably quicker) ways to do the same action. the above is just the method I use.

DJM,I successfully paired (once) with my Sony Viao win7x64. Now in the bluetooth devices, the VN150 has a yellow exclamation point on it. When I r-click->properties->hardware, it shows a 'Bluetooth Peripheral Device (with the ! ) with a status of "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)". There is also a "Standard Serial over Bluetooth link (COM4)". When I try to connect to the laptop, from the phone (Bluetooth menu), I get 'No services found".When I try to connect via usb, I get frequent connect/disconnect messeges. I could transfer some of the vn150 software files from the phone, but there is the root file system and a tools directory, but they only remain available for 10 seconds or so, then the connect/disconnect thing begins.I sure would like to transfer files. Any further ideas would be greatly appreciated. [from Tim Diet]

I installed the LG Drivers on my Win7 Laptop, and looking in the Program Files\LG Electronics folder, I see an LG blusetooth folder. The Bluetooth drivers must be installed as well as the USB drivers.

None of the LG phones will work with USB unless they have a MicroSD card slot with a card inserted. You can only read and or write to the MicroSD Card. Bluetooth should work for you and allow you to transfer photos back and forth between your PC and the phone... The drivers can be found in the Drivers & Resources section.

    LGPP or DJM,

May I ask where you got the bluetooth drivers? I have downloaded the two driver packages (LG_USB_Drivers_All_4.9.7 & LG VZW_United_WHQL_v2.3.1.zip) available for verizon from Drivers & Resources, and installed them, or tried - see my previous post with a link to pastebin (the post was long and formatted terribly). I tried each one at a time without success. I do not have an LG Bluetooth folder in \program files\lg electronics\ or anywhere else for that matter, as LGPP mentioned. Judging by the files installed, I cannot find a bluetooth driver, and win7 cannot find one either.

Very detailed reply... I'm not sure what is happening. I have my Revere Paired with my HP Laptop using a USB Dongle and BlueSoleil Software. If I activate Bluetooth on my PC I am able to find and Pair with my Revere. From the PC I can initiate "File Transfer" and the phone asks my to accept the connection and I select Yes. The phone then displays a directory of the Photo's Folder ... I forgot which other folder I can see... Sorry. I can then transfer files back and forth between the two devices.

I'm not sure whether the Bluetooth drivers for LG are necessary. I have them on my system but I think they are part of the Android driver install that's why I don't think they are required for the Revere (Feature Phone)

If I attempt to connect to my PC from the phone, it fails. I have to initiate the connection from the PC and then all is well. I don't know if it's an issue with by BlueSoleil drivers or just an issue with the Dongle or the phone...

After Pairing, try connecting from you PC to see if that works.
