LG Thrill battery drains while phone is off

I've had my LG Thrill since December. I usually power the phone off at night and back on in the morning. Sometimes I'd turn the phone on in the morning and feel like the battery level was too low, but I never remembered to take note of the level when I turned the phone off until last night. When I turned the phone off last night, it had 22% battery. When I turned it on this morning, after 8 hours of being off, the power level was now at 8%. I lost 14% of my battery in eight hours the phone was OFF? I'm not sure this is any better than if I just left it on!

What the heck is going on? Does this phone keep running when you turn it off? I don't mean turning the screen off, I am turning the phone off correctly by holding the power button until the settings screen appears and hitting the Power Off button on the screen. I can believe the protracted boot sequence and the miserable bright white ATT logo that lasts for several minutes could drain a few percent, but I won't buy that turning on the phone uses more than an eighth of the battery. I also know I haven't already worn out my battery, I usually get ~2 days of life on one charge.

My best guess on this is that the phone is not draining power while it is off. What is most likely happening is the power level reported is different based on many variables such as how hot/cool the battery is, how much it is being used, etc. You can sometimes check batt level, power down, remove batt, reinstall batt, power back up and see two different battery levels during that process. It's not always an exact and 100% consistent process reporting battery level back.

May I ask why you do not charge your phone at night? That's one of my nightly rituals that I never skip...plug the phone in to prepare for tomorrow. Impressive if you are getting 2 days of batt life, most people struggle to get 1 day with all of the powerhouse android phones.

I wouldn't call the issue solved...

Do you honestly think the battery level will fluctuate *down* 14%? If anything, the battery level should appear slightly *higher* after 8 hours without use; this happens in essentially every battery powered device.

I usually drain the battery to zero before recharging it. Reading about it now I find that's strongly discouraged, but I've always had significantly better battery life than any other smartphone user I know. Maybe I just don't use it as much. I'll stop draining it, but I don't think that's a related issue, or I wouldn't be able to run it for two days on one charge anyway. I need to try to remember to check the power drop while it's off overnight once more though.

actually with lithium ion batteries it is not good to drain them completely like the old batteries.

Yeah... hence "Reading about it now I find that's strongly discouraged"...
