Is there any way to make the ringer louder? I know it's supposed to slowly get louder as it rings, however I can't really tell much difference (I have it set on level 5)... it's all almost to soft to hear even when it gets its loudest. Does LG have any plans of fixing this? PLEASE tell me they do. I love this phone, but can't hear it from one side of the room to the other!

Am I the only one having trouble hearing my Glimmer ring?
[from dragonfly04] -

LG has been made aware of the need for a louder ringer on the Glimmer Because the ringer comes through the external earpiece speaker there is a liability issue with having the ringer set too high. For example, if someone is on a call and it drops and the phone is called back with the phone up to the users ear it could possibly cause hearing damage.
Iam currently working with 3rd party software that will allow for db adjustment to the ringer tones on the Glimmer. When I have it tested and completed I will share on this forum. Please understand that you will be using this at your own risk. Thank you for your patience with this.

I have made ringtones for my Voyager and adjusted the decibal level using Bitpim - Not sure if it works with the Glimmer but I'm anxious to find out if it does!

I increased the number of rings, it help a little, even though you can be charged.
Also cannot get purchased ringtones or MP3 tones to ring at near the volume of the internal phone tones. any way to increase the "my audio" tones? They are very low in volume compared to default tones.

brought my phone in, had one of the first ones, (it would not update over the air) Alltel store tried to flash the memory to the new version.. result -- one trashed phone. Phone updated, but then would show "no service" they tried 2 more times to reflash still no go a problem with the PRL. Could not get it to activate. They did swap out to a new phone, was able to update over the air with new phone in about 10 min. Seems there was something in the early phone. Now ringer updated, working fine.

*611 go to tech support they have to increase the number of tones. Be sure to check you voice mail to see if they reset it to work after increasing the tones. Also using wave pad it mixed my own tones, and made a sub tone for 3 seconds while the phone is in the vib-ring. With this tone delay the ringtone comes on loud. Also wavepad you can increase the volume there in mp3 before tx to the glimmer. I use datapilot by susteen. didnt have luck with bitpm.

OK found that i could mix rintone, with a 3 sec delay. with Wavepad. (or any sound mixeer) then tx them to Glimmer using Datapilot. Many use Bitpm. I cannot get Bit to work on mine. so i went with Datapilot/. now the tones are loud.

wtravlr1 How were you able to get Datapilot to detect your phone? I tried auto detect and entering the COM port but it won't detect my phone.

I had the exact same experience as wtravlr1. Why are there still these old phones out there???? It's pretty ridiculous that 2 months after the update was issued, they're still selling these old phones. I had just about had it with LG and Alltel until the issue finally got resolved yesterday with a new phone. Come on, Alltel! Get with it! P.S. 1 out of 5 customer service reps I called was helpful and respectful. The others were jerks! Incredibly rude! And another funny thing...the store manager at the Alltel in my town doesn't even know how to program phones...shouldn't that be a requirement??? He had to every person he talked to in the hour I was there to another consultant cause he didn't know how to do what they needed. Hmm....interesting.

Heard about a patch to fix the escalating ringer "feature," but updating software over the air was a frustrating waste of time. In order to get the software update, I had to visit my local Alltel store, which had a new (read: reconditioned) Glimmer mailed to me. (By the way, that was the trip that solidified my theory that the Alltel store is the new DMV.) The escalating ringer "feature" has been addressed, so I was told, by Alltel's software version T83ATV06 (Check your software version by going to Settings > Phone Information > Version > "S/W Version T83ATV06.") But from what I can tell, the first ring is still low-volume, and all subsequent rings are at the level you actually set the volume. So there's that. Looks like I'll have to get them to increase the ring count by one to accommodate. On getting Windows to recognize my phone via microUSB (thereby letting Bitpim talk to it): I had to track down x64 drivers, since I'm on Win XP Pro 64-bit and the 32-bit drivers were as useful as an Alltel CSR. But the drivers did the trick. Windows sees the Glimmer in modem mode now, and Bitpim talks to it as an "Other CDMA phone," though it can only view the file system (can't easily x-fer personal data as of Bitpim v. 1.0.6.2). Anyone find a resource with more technical details on the file system?

Another trashed lg830! now im on my 3rd one. this one (i had to use the mail service) will not update over the air like my first one. It does have the updated software. The first one was trashed when the store tried to flash it. The second one (i was out of country for 30 days) did not work with the high speed net work got a "cannot find 1xrt11" or something code -- cant remember now. But now the new one will not up date. dont know why the second one would get regular calls, but could not use the nav system or any hight speed evdo system. The EV showed on the top but the phone would not recognize. over the phone techs tried to reset sever times as did the store. no luck. phone is great WHEN IT WORKS.......................................and i still have 18 months left in the time period, but they said if it when again i could get a "lemon exemption" that would make them replace the phones even after the warranty period/ lg owners take note/

Wow! You are having one heck of a time with the Glimmer! *Knock on wood* My second one is working just fine. I don't really get a chance to use too many of the "extra" features though.
